C43 on 18" Styling 2's with H&R springs

I get the same runnbing as Alps described, but only really hear it when at full lock and reversing so I've not been too fussed about it. Why did you change the suspension out of interest, can't the car be lowered slightly on the existing suspension?

I just changed the springs for the H&R ones, I was already on #1 pads and I dont think the car could have been lowered otherwise....

I would investigate where the rubbing is first. German tuners do this by jacking up the car and lowering diagonal wheels onto blocks then turning the wheels.
When you cure that, we'll sell you some AMG III 19" with 235/35R19!

MMMMM 19"s, if only. Not really sure what you meant about the German Tuner method  but anyway, the rubbing is on the inside edge of the top of the arch when the wheel is turned as shown in my excellent little pic:

german tuner method=overstretch the tyres over the rims so that the profile is reduced using narrower tyres than usual. It gives the rubber band stretched over the rim effect.

I'm sure German tuners have lots of methods, and tyre stretching is one of the more dubious examples, but what I meant was as follows:
You are trying to find out where and on what the tyre rubs when the suspension is compressed, and it is difficult to replicate this statically, so on a ramp, lower the car whilst 2 diagonal wheels have blocks under them so that those corners have the suspension compressed, so you are free to turn the wheels and see what's going on..

mine rubs a little on that spot too, but only a little!

Ah, now I get it! Will give that a shot, cheers!

What do you guys think of these wheels Vs the ones I have on at the moment?

you can guess my opinion :D have you had a look at the new SLK AMG wheels? They do look very nice.

I'd like to see a pic of a W202 with styling IIIs

I'm not too keen on them, they look too detailed and fiddly compared to the styling IIs, the W202 looks pretty bland/slab-sided and I don't think the styling IVs suit it.

MBenzNL had them on his car for ages, there are some pics kicking around somewhere. He also has the new 18" SLK AMG rims on it right now IIRC.

mambo, sorry to hijack this thread but a quick question for you...what H&R springs do you have and how much were they? Where did you get them? I have a w202 1999 C200 Elegance with 18" rims and would like to lower the car but WITHOUT causing rubbing anywhere. What could you recommend? Many thanks

I have the H&R kit for the C43, I think its different from the kit for standard C classes. It consists solely of springs which lower the car by 30mm (IIRC). I am getting new wheels which are slightly narrower to get around the rubbing. How wide are your wheels?

On all corners I have 18"x8" rims with 225/40/18 Toyo T1S tyres. Should I get an original MB spring from a sports model or a H&R set? Thanks for your help.

How about New Carlsson springs (35-40mm drop??) for £119: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NEW-GENUINE-C...R-C-CLK-202-208

Will they give a harsher ride than original MB spring from a sports model or a H&R set? Still want to keep it as smooth as possible.
