C450 AMG coming in June 2016

I keep clicking on this thread expecting to see posts on the C43AMG

Instead all I see are posts from childish w*nkers. Grow the f*ck up !

Why do you have an SLK ? Surely another TT would be better for the 4wd fun ?
The slick is actually my wife's car, as is the TT, which in fact is one of the run-out fwd 190 coupes from 2006 with the deep boot, so I have the choice of practical pretty FWD, screaming old-school V6 RWD roadster, or properly fast in all conditions V-8 twin-turbo AWD. On a dry road, the slick isn't much slower than the S7, and of course you get much more *impression* of speed due to the noise, but that ain't the same as real speed.....

It actually did start off with several posts from people saying the C43 isn't a 'real' AMG, whatever that means, followed by others noting that the AWD C43 will likely be faster on UK roads than the RWD C63. It kinda went downhill from there, with the predictable 'you just can't handle a powerful RWD car' comments from the old school.

I wouldn't mind putting some money on the next E63 having more than 600bhp and being AWD, as the S63 already is in most markets apart from the UK. Don't mistake engineering issues with RHD being the same as the preferred format for these high-powered vehicles.

IMO the horsepower race is all getting a trifle silly.

Shopping car family hatchbacks with 300bhp these days, wasn't long ago that 300bhp was the preserve of V8 exec saloons.

Funny you should say that, as the previous C43 AMG was a 4.3 litre V8 with 306 horses. The new one is a 3-litre V6 with 362 horses and much more torque, courtesy of the turbos.

Quite so, and only one of them releases all the horsepower you paid for. AMG products have always had more engine than chassis, but now it's just embarrassing. It has nothing to do with driving skill (for some of us, at least) and everything to do with how much power you can deliver to the road. Anyone with reasonable reactions and some training can drive a RWD performance car right to the limit of its adhesion, no one can drive it past those limits without going slower. As Alx points out, the ability to jump in a >400bhp car and stomp on the throttle in any weather *without* the traction control kicking in, hence having all your power available for use, is not the province of RWD. Some of us find applying opposite lock off wet roundabouts tedious rather than entertaining, and it's certainly not quick.....

However, this argument will never go away, so keep having fun going slowly! If I lived back in Tucson, I would likely have an AMG (or a 'vette!), but I live in rural UK with rough, wet, muddy roads, so I have an Audi.

Well as Alex said I've got around 750bhp and don't often struggle for traction, but the bless of driving knowledge isn't for everyone, the ones that can't drive buy 4wd.

E63 AWD will be a peach!

Yeah, keep telling yourself that. Those of us who grew up without traction control and anti-lock brakes will smile as we cruise past you in the wet, happy in the knowledge that technology trumps testosterone... :-)

I'm sure your supercharged engine will sound just great while you're spinning your wheels, though!

Bruno was around when the horse and cart was in service :D

I was around when all that you said happened my 1st fast ish ride was a Citroën ax sport 1.3cc 4x 40 Webber , if you can't drive a powerful rwd car don't bore us with all that girly posts and keep driving your audi !lol

Mercedes-AMG C43 4matic:

Looking forward to seeing them - maybe the dealer will treat me and let me have one as a courtesy car at the next service.

AWD vs RWD vs FWD:

When Audi entered WRC with the Quattro the winning car that year was RWD (and British!). The last FWD Championship car was 1972.

Most championships define the drive configuration (WRC is AWD only, F1 RWD). Where it isn't defined the advantage really depends on the needs. In BTCC FWD is almost certainly best for short circuits.

How big is my c***?

I got fed up with the Alpina forum because too many people felt they were undiscovered F1 drivers charged with nursing some sort of ICBM strapped to a BMW.

Any chance we can discuss the excellent news that Mercedes is on the up and seems to be making cars for everyone?

p.s. Never owned an Audi, but without doubt the most impressive car I ever drove on a bad day for a test drive was an RS6 (the V10 one). JUST SAYING!

Similarly, if you can't admit the limitations of RWD, don't bore us with all your willie waving. My first two cars were both RWD, a Triumph Spitfire followed by a Reliant Scimitar 3-litre coupe, which I took road rallying with the 750 club back in the '70s. Managed to put the Spit through a hedge backwards at 90 in classic style, never crashed the much more powerful Scimitar, put that down to learning!

Meh. I learnt to drive in a high-powered rear wheel drive saloon.

A Morris Marina 1.8TC.

Oh yes, you read that right. Not the 1.3, oh no, the full on hard core 1.8 with twin carburettors. Feel the neck-snapping accelaration of an engine transplanted directly from the MGB. :bannana:

Frankly if you can drive one of those &^*^ing things you can drive anything.

I remember them, I recall that they only ran on 4 star fuel.

The C63 crowd are not wondering what the hell 4 star fuel is and where they can get some 5 star.

Drove one in the States, phenomenal beast !
It's an endless source of irritation that the AMG models are available in the USA with AWD, but not in the UK! I understand the technical issues, but they keep claiming to be the best automotive engineers in the world......

TBH as I don't claim to be any kind of performance driver I think I'd want AWD on a very powerful car. That said I'm a great believer in the best traction control being your right foot. An accelerator is not an on/off device.

I have to admit, one of the best cars we've had was my A8 D3. Only a 3.0l tdi and so sure footed in in bad weather.

The AMG is totally different. It brings a much much higher sense of occasion to it than any RS7 , M5. Those cars are so bland etc...
