C450 AMG coming in June 2016

Lol it's fine I'm just trying to make clear I am in no way slating this car. It's going to be exceptional and I don't dispute it's likely value for money wise a better buy than the C63.

I'm just disappointed MB are making the AMG brand less exclusive by badging every model with AMG.

They clearly can't win. People complain that there is too big a gap in the model range, but now they're filling it with the AMG Sport range, you're complaining that it makes AMG less exclusive.

There are clearly defined differences between the AMG sport range and full blown AMG. The engines are normal production line ones, the styling is toned down and even the nomenclature is different.

It's not the actual car that is the problem - it will be as good as any other Mercedes. It's the use of the "AMG" in it which for an enthusiast means a high performance engine.

Mercedes marketing team needs an overhaul. GLCBA600e 1.1L CDI Bluetec Hybrid 4matic AMG Sport SE will soon be a norm for them, if not already.

Its funny how most of the people on this thread who have real AMG's don't call this an AMG and the people who drive diesels and B classes etc have a pop at us and say that we are egotistical immature etc.... One of you said its your first visit yet you have nearly 2k posts...

Anyway, the car seems decent on paper im not disputing that, I am disputing that it is an AMG. That's my opinion. I work hard enough to be able to buy an AMG at my young age and I am proud of that and if that makes me egotistical and whatever else you lot are saying that so be it. I have one and you don't.... I like that.... Jealous people always have something to say.... When a c63 drives down the road people look, when a c450 drives down the road, people wont give it a second look... Its not special and its not an AMG... Most men are proud of their cars and as much as you wont admit it in this thread you would like people to look at your cars... If that makes me egotistical, GOOD..... I like it....

The C450 is a halfway house and Mercedes can call it what they want. They brand it according to the market they think they will buy it. This is exactly comparable to what BMW has done to the M division. They made a cheaper halfway house being the m135 m235 etc which are good cars but not a REAL "M".

Call it what you will, I would never buy one. If I am dropping that money by the time its specced up it wont be far of a c63.

So please carry on getting touchy saying that your new or first visit and that this is upsetting you, or that we are egotistical and immature.... God I thought my little sister was bad!!

Real AMG owners respect each other and the cars which they have worked hard to own and those who haven't got one always have something to say......

Sums it up for me.

Interesting post and well reasoned. I have to say that I am in the 'who cares' camp to an extent, but you have made me think about what AMG means to me compared to say the M badge of BMW.

As I am more knowledgeable about AMG I guess I see it as a brand that Mercedes use when it suits them with the AMG Sport moniker. Whereas I still think the M badge means something special .. to me it indicates a BMW that has been properly breathed on by the M division, but of course the whole M Sport thing is the same as what Mercedes have done with AMG, I just take less notice of it with BMW I guess.

I don't feel it really matters to me personally and while you are right that we like our cars to be admired mine has no badges on it so I hope the car itself gets the looks not the badge.

I did have a funny episode in a traffic jam over summer when I was next to a C class soot chucker who had an AMG badge glued to his boot. We were in separate lanes and with the ebb and flow of the traffic kept passing each other back and forth. I had the roof down and eventually he came alongside, wound his window down and asked if mine was an AMG to which I said 'yes'. He then asked what in God's name had made me debadge it and I replied for precisely the opposite reason he had stuck an AMG badge on his diesel..... he wound his window up and stopped talking to me :dk: :D

I don't think people specifically mean the badge.... Anyone who knows can tell by the stance, brakes, bonnet, exhaust at the noise even in traffic... If someone questions you on your car they just don't know... If someone had a 335i made to look like an m3 I could tell the difference immediately and people who know about cars will also be able to

Yep, but people who know about cars don't buy diesels so I knew I was on to a loser with that one ;) :D

Yeah, I don't personally see the benefits with diesel in the UK but that is another argument Im not going to start.......

Petrol AMG, ///M etc for me all day long.... I will leave the M Sport and AMG Line etc to others to enjoy :bannana:

Never driven a Alpina D3 then?

Never driven a Alpina D3 then?

copied and pasted from the internet but nevertheless

Alpina and M both work with BMW's so yes they're assembled in Germany. It actually depends upon the car itself. Alpina engines are tuned from original while M engines start from ground up they completely modify the engine.

Alpina focus on sports but they do maintain the luxury like better wood grain, better leather, they definitely ride better than M vehicles, while all BMW M cars are truly made for hardcore performance they do give up a bit of luxury (but not much) in order to make their vehicles "the ultimate driving machine" as possible...M cars handles better than Alpina cars

Alpina relies on its turbos for raw power while M, like E90/92/93 M3 and E60 M5 and E63/64 M6 are naturally aspirated engines....(next generations will have turbos because naturally aspirated engines are expensive to make)

in terms of better.....

this all goes to the driver, if you want comfort, luxury, performance then its Alpina...

if you want "the ultimate driving experience of your life" then its ///M

I am not the biggest fan of turbos for my daily drive so yeah the above sums it up perfectly for me

What I said was that it was my first visit to the highly exclusive AMG threads. I only had a pop at the attitude of those who proclaimed sensitivity over their badge. I don't drive a diesel, I hate them all with a passion - not because they have a CDi badge on the back, but because they sound like bags of nails and they shoot deadly soot out of their exhausts. And I don't have a B-class, I have a V6 petrol engined C-class that looks basically the same as yours but without some of the fancy stuck on accessories that do nothing at legal speeds. I happen to prefer my comfort ventilated seats in my quieter car for which I paid over £40k in cash. I could have afforded a new C63, but I didn't want one. I'm not in the slightest bit jealous of your car, sorry to disappoint you. Is that too impossible to understand?

Which is why the C450 would be perfectly suited to people like you.... £40k for a c350..... wow......... lol

You don't disappoint me, im glad people like you don't run a car you couldn't handle... Hence why you went for the semi skimmed version.... yawn....

Its not sensitivity of the badge its sensitivity over the product and the understanding which you clearly do not have over what an AMG is.

Quiet???? I think you should drive a c63 and see how quiet they are cruising around and I bet your fuel consumption isn't far of mine, and yours is probs worse on the motorway at "legal speeds"

Just googled a few reviews on the c350 and well, I don't need to say anything further.

Fancy stuck on accessories??? Really ???? I mean come on even you know you shouldn't have written that......

Please im not going to respond to your tirade of ill-informed statements which do nothing but make you look like a......... well a guy who spends more money on a c350 than a low mileage c63 all because it has cooling seats... lol

OK, well AMGs are all turbo (well soon they will be)

D3 is about as fast as your C63 (better on top speed to be pedantic) and in no way do they NOT handle.

Just my opinion having driven all of them.

I know a little about cars and yet I drive a diesel...and a petrol.:p

Me too, technically 2 petrols and a diesel.

Having said that I'm not young, rich and full of my own self importance.

Got a massive Chopper though.

You have a mortgage though?

I always wanted a Chopper.

I've got it. I had a moment of clarity this morning and figured out the solution to this problem, as clearly it's a serious problem (for those that care that is).

MBClub.co.uk
AMG Club.co.uk

There's your solution. AMG's are clearly so far superior to any normal MB vehicle they deserve their own forum for a bit of mutual backslapping.

Membership of non AMG owners not allowed. Vin number required at registration.

Problem solved, I should become a politician. Vote for me, I promote segregation and status based on apparent wealth.

But which forum do you join with your C450AMG.

Mutual backslapping you say?
