C450 AMG coming in June 2016

FIRST DRIVE: 2016 MERCEDES-BENZ C450 AMG 4MATIC

Tester says it annihilates the c63 amg -

It also says pretty much you'd only buy one if you can't afford the C63. Now I don't condone that kind of comment because the difference between £50k and £70k is likely neither here nor there for someone of that means but effectively it's a great car "for the money" which I have to agree with. In fact I would likely buy one over and above an A45.

I have no issue with the car. It just shouldn't have an AMG badge.

No need to Google, it's been discussed here many times. I think however, you mean hand assembled...from a kit...by one man. Not hand crafted...the assembler does nothing re: machining etc.

I'm still at a loss to understand why this is a better way. Where's the consistency given that different human beings are responsible for different engines...it stands to reason, some will be better than others. Florian Brader being one of the best.

Whereas machine assembly should be consistent. Even then...are other engines totally machine assembled?

You know what I meant.

I'm not saying the process is better I'm saying that on the basis the 450 doesn't follow the philosophy it isn't an AMG in the same way my 335i M Sport is not on any level close to my e92 M3.

Mercedes C 450 AMG Sport 2015 review | Auto Express

Thrilling Mercedes C 450 AMG Sport Estate gives a taste of full-fat AMG model

Verdict 4/5 stars

The Mercedes C 450 AMG Sport doesn’t arrive in UK showrooms until 2016, but it will be worth the wait. Thanks to its AMG tweaks, it’s faster and more entertaining than an Audi S4, yet it loses none of the refinement of the standard C-Class, and the 4MATIC transmission adds extra all-weather peace of mind. As an effortless and engaging upmarket executive express, this Mercedes takes some beating.
If your budget doesn’t stretch to a Mercedes-AMG C 63, then Mercedes could have the answer in the form of the new C 450 Sport 4MATIC saloon and Estate models. Designed to bridge the gap between the standard C-Class models and the V8-powered flagship, the newcomer aims to distil some AMG magic into a more cost-effective package.

Not that the C 450 is a humdrum machine. Look past the subtly sporty looks and you’ll find a 362bhp 3.0-litre V6 twinned to Mercedes’ grippy 4MATIC all-wheel-drive transmission. More importantly, the suspension, brakes and steering are carried over from the C 63.

On the move, the C 450 lacks the thrills of the C63, but it’s vastly better than the standard C-Class. The steering is direct and accurate, the dampers do a good job of controlling body roll and there’s lots of grip – the 4MATIC system delivers terrific traction out of slower bends. Yet thanks to a torque split that sends 67 per cent of the engine’s effort to the rear wheels, the C 450’s attitude can be subtly adjusted using the throttle.

The new engine is a highlight, too. It can’t match the C 63 for firepower, but with 520Nm of torque and a 0-62mph time of 5.0 seconds (4.9 seconds for the saloon), the newcomer is no slouch, plus the twin-turbo unit delivers a sporty growl when extended.

Turn the AMG Dynamic Select control to Comfort and the C 450 settles down to a quiet cruise. The ride is a little stiff over broken surfaces, but otherwise it’s relaxed and refined. This impression is heightened by an interior that majors on upmarket premium appeal – although a bright red finish for the steering wheel stitching and seatbelts adds a racy flourish.

And the C 450’s credentials as a cut-price AMG are boosted by fuel returns of 36.6mpg and emissions of 180g/km for the Estate, and 37.1mpg and 178g/km for the saloon.

I can't seem to find a bad word against it.

It seems like a very well balanced car (in all respects) in the reviews I've just googled.

Spiritual successor to the C32 maybe? It's certainly mentioned in one of the articles above.

This thread has been my first visit to the AMG forum, and it's already stepping up to its reputation. I'd heard about how precious the AMGry young men were with their badge, but now I've witnessed it for myself. Some of the remarks here could make me feel guilty about the AMG body kit, mats and other bits on my pathetic 306hp V6 C350. But they don't. I'm not for a moment going to compare my car's performance to that of an AMG, but I reserve my right to say that it's what I prefer. If people get excited about having the AMG tag on their cars, why not let them? What harm does it do you? Surely you're not saying that the badge is all that makes your cars special? (By the way, there are no AMG badges on the outside of my car.)

So back to the subject of the thread: the C450. Now that I've read the reports and seen the pictures, I like it. I could almost accept the stuck on iPad. Would I buy new? I doubt it now, having already lost over £25k in depreciation on my C350. But I could well be looking out for one in two or three years time.

I really am amazed at SOME of the posts on this thread from C63 owners. Immature, pretentious, boastful, egotistical. I could go on.

Who cares what MB tag the C450 as? If people like it, they'll buy it. That's it. Simple. I think some C63 owners are scared to have their 'AMG' brand diluted by MB introducing yet another model and so feel the need to shout out to the world 'Pooooowwwweeerrrrr'

For gods sake, get a grip boys.

It's the first time I have properly understood the arrogance of SOME on the members on this forum.

I feel sorry for the OP (Daz) who just asked a simple question.

Everyone has missed the point completely and taken it out of context.

MB have been misleading in the badging/marketing of this car. We are enthusiast so we know what it is. The average buyer will buy this thinking it is a real AMG though and that's sad.

If it sells in huge numbers and funds less profitable projects for lower volume cars I'm happy though nevertheless.

So, again on topic......

Is it coming in June 2016?

Is the anything official on pricing?

When can we order?

What will the std spec likely be?

Stu...they aren't made by AMG...it is just a badge no matter what the engine...they are all made by Mercedes, no such thing anymore as a real AMG.

This is not to say I don't admire some of the current crop...but it's the truth.

I'm sorry Stuart, but an 'average' buyer buying a £50,000+ car??? I'm sure if they're spending that they're sure to know a little bit about what they're buying? :dk:

Another point. I'll laugh my t!ts off if when this car is released it knocks the spots off a C63 around a wet track :bannana:

Thank you for thinking of us poor folk that can only afford lower volume cars. :thumb:

It likely will knock spots off it due to 4wd. Personally having come from a lot of M cars I prefer experience and dynamics. I don't want safe/boring 4wd. If I did I would be in an Audi showroom buying an RS4/6.

You've misread the post.

The C450 will sell large volumes I think. This enables MB to be able to fund projects such as the AMG GT and lower volume cars like the A45 become viable to develop and gamble on.

The high volume rep-mobiles make it possible for us to own the flagship models which don't sell in large numbers.

Sorry Stuart. I did mis read.

But I hope you know me by now and was only trying to make a lil joke. (Albeit a bad one)

Lol it's fine I'm just trying to make clear I am in no way slating this car. It's going to be exceptional and I don't dispute it's likely value for money wise a better buy than the C63.

I'm just disappointed MB are making the AMG brand less exclusive by badging every model with AMG.

Stu...again, AMG was made less exclusive when MB chose to buy it.

It is all marketing, and why not. These cars are an end of an era which we look back on fondly in only a few years time.

If it's all about performance then a Tesla it has to be. At least they have a sense of humour with their "insane" button.

Yep long live the V8 because soon it will be no more.
