Not good.
Started suddenly and is definitely the near side. Does it permanently even if just gently rolling forward in neutral. Sounds like an amplified mouse EEK EEK EEK.
Thought I had a broken spring as it is very metallic.
Jacked up car and removed rear wheel. No obvious sign of spring or suspension damage. With rear in the air (cars rear that is) I used a sissor jack to lift the rear hub. No squeak when raised or lowered. Cleaned up hub face and replaced wheel. As soon as car is back on the ground and moving EEH EEH.
OH and if I open the tailgate and rock the car I get the EEK EEK but not anything like as bad as when I have the car moving. My neighbour says it sounds like a very squeaky door hinge sound effect from the radio when he is outside the car.
Could it be roll or radius arm bushes?
