Been looking for a Euro spec C55 speedometer cluster for a while, due to my impending move to Australia. Hence I need the cluster to have a KPH dial.

One cropped up on ebay.de so I bought it tonight!

Am I going to have any major dramas in getting the mileage sorted out? Its not a new cluster and has 150000km's on it and my car only has 46000 miles, so bit of a difference.

I am pretty sure a main dealer cant alter it as its not new, could an Indy possibly do it? Or will I have to go to one of those hooky "Mileage Correction" people?

If I have to do the latter, will it leave any dodgy trace anywhere in the electronics. Obviously I will get them to match it exactly to what I drive it in at.

Cheers!

Oh, anyone want a UK C55 cluster??

it can be done, firstly you need to get the milage put back to zero by using something like tacho pro, then you need to get it setup using STAR to your car and connected to the EIS so that it reads the milage correctly.

basically any cluster with any milage will just show -------- instead of the milage if it is not put to zero first.

hope that helps

It can be done.Merc stores millage in the cluster, key and ecu if one of those is not correct cluster will go crazy.Proper MB program on laptop and of you go.I think you will need to tell your car that you are in Germany not in UK too :)

not entirely true, you cannot change the milage using STAR, everything else you can configure.

Cheers Alps,

Have you actually seen this done mate?

Dont want to get the cluster, plug it in and cause a whole lot of issues!

Another thought, what about just dropping the internal circuit board from mine, into these clocks?

Anyone else have a clue on this? As I have spoken to an Indy and a dealer that just want to plug it in and see what happens!? But i have read that it could maybe mess up the mileage in my ignition module, as its lower than whats stored on the cluster I have bought.

Should i be looking at getting one of the mileage correction guys to set the cluster to zero before I plug it in??

you can change the facias if you can get them, as it will all calibrate up correctly

otherwise dont trust a dealer as they dont normally do anything thats not documented!

yep get milage changed back to zero on cluster and then sync up using star from there.

Does taking the fascia's off not mean removing the needle therefor knocking out the cal?

I have also read that the scale is slightly different, so you cant just change the fascia as the needle still moves in mph.

Think I will just have to try and get the cluster working.

Will need to get it set to Zero first, which all these Mileage correction guys are after £100 for, seems a bit steep for whats a minutes work!

minutes work but i guess they have to buy the kit first! also they have to make some money i guess:)

good luck let us know how it goes!

Suppose, when you put it like that! And saves me paying I've a 1k for a new cluster!

Will keep you posted.

Spoke to a chap this afternoon local to me who does mileage correction, and he has said he will stick the cluster back to 50 odd miles before I install it in the car, then when it goes in the car it will pick my actual mileage up. He seems pretty certain of it, so heres hoping. Will report back once its done.

Cheers!

hes wrong, cluster has to be below 250 miles for it to register to the EIS (when you use STAR to set it up), maybe he knows a trick i havent seen. give it a go when hes there and see if it works!

EDIT : - just re-read it, yes if he changes it to 50 something it will work when syncing using STAR, DOH!

Oh so it will need to be synced with STAR? It will not just automatically pick the mileage up?

as far as i know yes its gonna need STAR to set it all up inc enabling\disabling options specific to your car.

Got the new cluster fitted today, and got a mileage correction guy just to match it to what was on my cluster that come out. So far so good, the lines have not appeared instead of the mileage.

Not had the cluster on STAR and not sure if there is any need to??? Everything is working, as the guy in Germany I got it from had all the same options as me. Obviously the cluster is set to rest of world mode, and ill leave it that way as I am shipping it to Oz. Interestingly this cluster has quite a few extra features, which i can only imagine come from the rest of world setting.

Okay, just been out and have a slight issue. When I engage the cruise control it still works, however it is not displaying the speed etc on the dash anymore. Also the Limit function is displaying nothing on the dash also. I presume the cluster I have in just is not coded for CC? Would that be right, as I thought all C55's came standard with cruise control.

They do all come with CC.

It is best to get it plugged in to check the coding.

Just read some of the earlier W203 facelift cars never showed the CC speed in the window, do you know if thats true Olly?
