C63 AMG
Hi guys,

I've just purchased a 2010 C63 AMG, whilst it is amazing car as stock, I can't help but tweaking every car I've had.

I've done a lot of reading that easy power increases can be had from a remap on this car even though it is an NA engine, is this correct or is it just the usual tuners fudged figures?

From the many threads that I've read on here it seems the main contenders for re-maps are DMS, Kleeman and MRC.

Are there any personal recommendations on here for the companies listed above and are all their results similar?

Thanks

:) Welcome to the forum. check out my thread on this subject it may give you some ideas and opinions.

C63 re map

Hi,

also new to the forum, i have a 2010 C63 with performance pack plus, had a re map by Dms which they quote about 530bhp. its as quick in a straight line as my old 2010 GTR which i traded for the C63, had it de limited also.

GTR :D proper track toy out of the box

It appears you can make easy power gains because on the lower power versions the throttle is not allowed to open fully so restricts engine breathing.

Really?

I know they did that on the mini cooper vs the mini cooper S. The S allowed full fueling, the normal one about 80%.

I thought the C couldn't due to the exhaust/air intakes etc. The E could.

The SLS has different internals which is why its ahead power wise.

If I were a C63 owner, with no budget contraints, I'd want to supercharge that engine. Easy 600bhp right there.

The GTR can be incredibly expensive to fix. If a small bump sets off the bonnet rising mechanism...it can cost about £12000 to repair.

wouldn't have a GTR without warranty so it wouldn't matter

Someone at my work has one. He had a 911 GT3 before it. Prefers the Nissan as its more comfortable.

Yes.

Someone on here had it done and I for one was very sceptical of any gains with it being a N/A engine, but it gave a significant power output enhancement.

It was found that the throttle was strangling the engine to reduce airflow.

I didn't remove the photo's purposefully...I tidied up my Photobucket account (into folders) and forgot it mucked up all the links. I'd go back and edit them back in but I can't edit them. Ah hell, I'll quote it and re-add them as it was quite a project!

Anyway, just to add some useful info to this thread:

The standard 457bhp C63 is 'throttled back' so a remap does generate an easy 40hp or so as they open up the throttle.

C63 with PPP has different ECU map and some of the forged internals from the SLS...the forged internals don't seem to contribute to the extra 'claimed' 30hp as much as the ECU map which I assume opens the throttle up more....I say this as remapping a 487bhp PPP car definitely doesn't give the same increases as a 457bhp one!

Steve is right in that the big difference between C63 and other '63's is the restrictive intake and exhaust design and, even more importantly, insufficient cooling. Theres just no space in the engine so whilst the engine may be able to take an ECU map that potentially gives more power, it's likely that the inability of the engine bay to manage the heat effectively will just result in the ECU pulling back on the power.

As proof of this, my standard C63 PPP dyno'd at 507bhp - admittedly this was very strong for a standard car - I say it was well run-in as, just a couple of hundred miles after picking it up from the Stuttgart factory I was doing 140mph+ on the autobahn....see, I told you all that giving it the guns from new does more benefit that harm ;). Anyway, when I stuck a Brabus ECU map (and air filters) on it, the result was largely negative...it gave an extra 4bhp right on the rev-limiter (so irrelevant really) and in fact it delivered slightly worse power across the rev range. Brabus admitted that their map must have been very similar to what AMG do to the PPP and in any case, if Brabus can't raise the power of the PPP (safely) then I doubt DMS or AN Other tuner can do it better!

Of course everyone thinks differently when they have a remap and are 100% sure that the car is quicker when they have it tuned....all I say is people will believe what they like but, take away the placebo effect and if one's being honest, you'd never notice the difference. I have attached the dyno results again below.

The ONLY engine mod where I can honestly say I felt a real difference was when I had the 700-cell cats replaced for the 200-cell cats (as described in that link). And I can definitely confirm that even after the substantial exhaust mods, my C63 was not quicker than the 2010 GT-R that I test drove a year ago when I was looking to change it....but as was said above, the C63 was the significantly better everyday car.

Thanks Andrew, I didn't think you did...you could add them here I suppose.

having had both for more than a test drive i would still say in a straight line the 63 and GTR are are neck and neck but if you tried to drive the 63 like the GTR you would kill yourself!!
