I didn't remove the photo's purposefully...I tidied up my Photobucket account (into folders) and forgot it mucked up all the links. I'd go back and edit them back in but I can't edit them. Ah hell, I'll quote it and re-add them as it was quite a project!
Anyway, just to add some useful info to this thread:
The standard 457bhp C63 is 'throttled back' so a remap does generate an easy 40hp or so as they open up the throttle.
C63 with PPP has different ECU map and some of the forged internals from the SLS...the forged internals don't seem to contribute to the extra 'claimed' 30hp as much as the ECU map which I assume opens the throttle up more....I say this as remapping a 487bhp PPP car definitely doesn't give the same increases as a 457bhp one!
Steve is right in that the big difference between C63 and other '63's is the restrictive intake and exhaust design and, even more importantly, insufficient cooling. Theres just no space in the engine so whilst the engine may be able to take an ECU map that potentially gives more power, it's likely that the inability of the engine bay to manage the heat effectively will just result in the ECU pulling back on the power.
As proof of this, my standard C63 PPP dyno'd at 507bhp - admittedly this was very strong for a standard car - I say it was well run-in as, just a couple of hundred miles after picking it up from the Stuttgart factory I was doing 140mph+ on the autobahn....see, I told you all that giving it the guns from new does more benefit that harm
. Anyway, when I stuck a Brabus ECU map (and air filters) on it, the result was largely negative...it gave an extra 4bhp right on the rev-limiter (so irrelevant really) and in fact it delivered slightly worse power across the rev range. Brabus admitted that their map must have been very similar to what AMG do to the PPP and in any case, if Brabus can't raise the power of the PPP (safely) then I doubt DMS or AN Other tuner can do it better!
Of course everyone thinks differently when they have a remap and are 100% sure that the car is quicker when they have it tuned....all I say is people will believe what they like but, take away the placebo effect and if one's being honest, you'd never notice the difference. I have attached the dyno results again below.
The ONLY engine mod where I can honestly say I felt a real difference was when I had the 700-cell cats replaced for the 200-cell cats (as described in that link). And I can definitely confirm that even after the substantial exhaust mods, my C63 was not quicker than the 2010 GT-R that I test drove a year ago when I was looking to change it....but as was said above, the C63 was the significantly better everyday car.
