C63 - car being eyed up- coincidence/paranoia or sinister?

If they were really looking to clone your car do you think they'd be that stupid to drive exactly the same car to case out yours?

Edit: thinking about it, it's possible!

Who knows, they may have thought no one is in or no one saw them as my car is stood there most of the day/night apart from school runs / heading out to gym and over weekends...so they may have thought they can get away in that measure...to be frank I do not double guess these guys...they say always trust your gut, on this my gut tells me 'really suspicious'...

Vigilance is indeed key... :thumb:

Paranoia.

Seems to me you are worrying about something that doesn't need to be worried about.

Don't agree. Seemed shady to me and the OP has every right to feel something not right.
I'm also in the camp that cloning the plates for something illegal is the most likely scenario.
Good move too to report your fears to the old bill. At least if you get speeding tickets etc coming through the post you have forewarned the police of your suspicions.

Just put the reg of the suspicious car on the forum for all to keep an eye out for. If you have it, no law against it

I'm not sure about the plate cloning theory.

If that was the case, the car wouldn't have pulled up right outside the OP's house for a whole minute and then waited around the corner for a further three minutes. Noting down a registration number doesn't take that long and can be done far more covertly.

Whilst it may be that the cleverer crook would have used a mundane car to do the recce, most crooks are actually thick.

Chances are it nothing rather than something. However, no harm being vigilante and on guard about it.

I think Im very spoilt, I have not had to even lock my garage door for nine years!

I wouldn't want to try and out-guess whether they were up to anything or what it was. Is it a cloning exercise or are they identifying a target for a future theft? Why gamble? Maybe add a couple of wheel clamps or, and I know this sounds mad, take a leaf out of the motorcycle security world and instal a ground anchor and a Sold-secure chain and padlock around the axle…awkward and inconvenient for you but more so for them, perhaps?

Lots of possibilities, I live down the road from you off the drive and would be paranoid also.

However it could simply have been someone passing by chance and checking out your mint example, to be honest I've done it when I've seen an awesome motor parked up.

If it was cloning then so be it. It will quickly be proved that it wasn't you.

If they want to steal the car, I don't think that they would park so obviously outside the house.
I often look at c63's in driveways and slow down and look, granted I never stop outside and stalk them.

If I was a thief I wouldn't drive by in the same car and then park outside, clearly they can see you have a lot of deterrents.

As described by FastLaneJB, I had a similar system on a Mustang GT convertible many years ago. You could start it and drive it a short distance, then it would cut out unless you tripped the "secret" second switch. Which was turn on parking lights. Any auto electrician could rig something up, I'm sure.

It could indeed a number of possibilities and as mentioned in my first post ive a number of security measures which they may (or not) find too much hassle - however i heard today of someones front door, not far from my area kicked in middle of the night without the thugs being bothered about the racket...they were after a set of Porsche 911s keys j..a confrontation followed and basically they made off, unsuccessful, letting the owner theyl be back to brace himself ...poor guy was so shaken up that he put his home on the market the very next day! Sick twisted world it has come to! This is not a scenario i wish gor having a 2YO Daughter in the house!

Someone mentioned on here that these thugs arent that stupid to case like what i set out happened, but if they are brave enough to confront you in your own homr then they can brave/stupid to be so blatant about it...as said its quiet around here and couldve thought no-one would find a black c63 out of place in the square...i believe prepare for the worse and wish for the best in these cases in life!

Ive reported it now so not much more to do about it than get on with life

Seems like your security is on point so I wouldn't worry too much. If they gonna clone your car not Mch u can do so don't stress.

Personally they Prob jus admiring your car... After all C63's are the coolest MB's lol (minus GT)

Maybe or maybe they just know the police are unlikely to catch them that they don't need to take much precaution. They could have had a fake plate on their vehicle already.

We had a guy steal a plant pot off our property. Before he did this he looked right at the CCTV from the road and then did it anyway. Even with his face we never heard that he had been caught.

I think it's just a case that the police presence in this country is dropping due to funding cuts. Go back a few years and think how many speed camera vans you'd see and police on the roads. Hardly any camera vans now and far less police cars if you ask me.

Camera vans are not even manned by police officers. Just civilians trained to use the local constabularies mobile fine generators. No great loss if all camera vans were scrapped.
My views would be different if they were actually placed in accident black spots as opposed to straight roads where they can generate the most revenue.

Had a break in last year but we mustve just caught them as they got in as when we drove up the 3 of them quickly made a leg-it out the front doir straight past the car we were still in...that still fresh in my memory dont make this incident any easier...

So yes I agree they getting more n more ballsy...

^ I know, you can see them a mile off... Kill-joys...

Yes, very clever but they see you before you see them which is too late !
