This weekend i parted company with my C63. Only had it 4 months, the shortest time ever for me. Changed it for a C350 CDI. Will post up some pics once the rain stops :) For those that may be interested I though I'd post up my experience.

Got off to a very bad start when I bought my C63 from Mercedes of Portsmouth. Staggeringly incompetent in preparing a car. Had their C63 demo saloon for a month :( I would not send my worse enemy there. When I finally got my car, a black C63 estate, i have to say I have enjoyed every minute of the car. The pops bangs and gurgles each morning on start up are heaven and the sheer performance always made me smile. This was the fastest car I've owned by a long way. Ride and handling were top notch for me. Suspension was very firm but you expect that with the performance. brakes were very powerful too. The AMG seats were the best Ive had and all in all a terrific car :)

So why did I change. Few things really. Took so long and so much trouble getting the car, it really took the edge off things and with hindsight maybe I should have just rejected the car and the 30 policy. The car pulled left and my local Merceds could not fix it and the suspension creaked, groaned and bumped going in rverese. New parts were fitted under warranty which made this quieter but did not stop it. Fuel cinsumption was not good but I did expect that. The worst I saw was 10 mpg driving through London and the best I got was 23 over a long weekend away. TBH I never intended having it long as I knew there would come a point when I couldnt stomach the constant filling up.

So what about the new toy. it is a Feb 2012 C350 CDI sport estate. I bought it from Mercedes Caterham who were a rveleation compared to Portsmouth. Dont know if its becasue they are Mercedes rather than a frnachise but they have been excellent. Initial thoughts are that it is much much quieter inside. it doesnt hang about as it is by now means a slow car but the mpg is obviously much better. On my comute the C63 was getting 14-15 mpg, the C350 is doing 27-28 mpg. Have been on a long run to one of our offices that the C63 did 22 on and got 42 so well chuffed there :) The ride is a lot softer and absorbs the bumps way better but the brakes are markedly worse :( I know I would not get the same thing but visually the discs look a fair size and are cross drilled but do not have anything like the same stopping power. might need to look into an upgrade there ;) being a facelift model it is generally nicer and has the toys I wanted; Command, Leather, privacy glass as wellas the usual standard stuff. So all in all very happy though I do miss the sound track and sheer performance of the C63. Itch scratched :thumb:

Looking forward to the pictures

Sorry to hear of your problems with the C63 and good luck with the C350 CDI – but, you must have known about the 'poor' fuel consumption before you bought it?

As a counterpoint to your post, I would just like to say I have recently bought my SLS via Mercedes-Benz of Portsmouth and my experience has been very different from yours. I won’t pretend everything is perfect (one of my keys needs to be re-programmed) – few things are, but it is the way that these sorts of issues are handled and sorted out that matter most to me. I have to say that so far I have been treated very well and the people I have dealt with have all been extremely positive and customer focused.

I am sorry your experience has been so different, but thought it only fair to offer an alternative view.

Hello

The C350 sounds good,

Dare I ask what the loss was after only 4 months?

I have a E320Cdi estate and love now getting over 40MPG, I would love a E55 estate but I don't think now I could go back to 20mpg or less... it does start to annoy you.

From whaat driving I do I really don't know when you guys can use the performance of the C63 too be honest on a UK road. My bus feels pleanty quick enough, rides well and I can get 1000 miles on a range...

PS.. You could always fit a brabus box to the C350 :)

Same here. I don't reckon I use even half the performance available from my CLS 320cdi so how anyone can find roads to enjoy a car with the power of a C63 (unless on a track) baffles me!

It's not just the power though, don't forget there's the handling ability. Taking tight bends at much quicker speeds makes it more capable at being fun than a regular motor, and at using it's power.

Remember this old clip? ;)

^ But keeping to legal speeds it will handle better therefore your no where near the limit of what it will do. So it will not feel as exciting.

In our 'standard' cars it may feel more 'on the edge' as its closer to the limit.

:)

Ah see I'd prefer a safer feeling - I've been 'on the edge' in a few regular cars before, scares the living crap out of me so much that I just don't enjoy it lol

I agree one only needs to breathe on the throttle on public roads
however on a track is when it gets into its stride

Every motorway slip road for me. And every toll booth from the north to the south of France and back.

Ah, in Europe, I understand fully! :D

A C63 in Russia would be fun too, until you broke the suspension on the crap road surfaces! :D

Don't mind saying the loss was tough, bought for £39k and sold for £33.5k but I got a great deal on the C350 compared to new. The first thing you notice performance wise is hitting a roundabout. The first time I barrelled up to one in the C350 I had a moment where I though '****' we're not stopping here. Massive difference. In overtaking you can go for ridiculous gaps with ease. I also used full power regularly when overtaking the usual jokers who put their foot down to stop you on dual carriageways and motorways. Whats a Brabus box?

No the economy was what I expected and I always believed I wouldn't have the car for a long time. Glad you had a good experience and would expec nothing less buying an SLS :). Made 3 separate complaints to MB about them, it was their inability to sort things out after they'd gone wrong that did me and the salesman was a liar but then again I suppose he is a car salesman ;)

You bought a brand new C63 for 39k? You did well sir.

Sorry you didn't all in love with the C63 but it now sounds like you have a car you love, and a great looking one at that!

I wish:). It was new to me ;)

I live near Mercedes Caterham, I always found them expensive, but helpful.

They are "Mercedes Retail" where they dispose of demo's, management cars, lease cars etc etc pretty much everything they have is VAT qualifying which generally means it's not been outside of Mercedes PLC or been through a company.

:) So you didn't consider going back to BMW....?? ;)

Aye aye, there's a familiar name ;). Did think about it but the W204 has really grown on me and as a car for me is better than my E91 was. Is a better place to sit in and seems better built. I do want another AMG and am really keen on the A class AMG and will be waiting for it :)

Brabus box..

PowerXtra
D6 (III) diesel kit
+48hp for C 320 CDI, +41hp
for C350 CDI Blue Efficiency.
For automatic cars only

+41 bhp and a bucket load more torque...

I have it on my E320cdi and its pretty nippy for a large bus.

Chris, a truly disappointing experience for you, we discussed it, I think you were patient. Glad you got a new car tat is making you happy though.
