Over on MB World they seem happy with the official price of the C63.

For reference at today's exchange rates:

Irish price: €117,000. Equivalent in US$ = $174,330

UK price: ~£60,000 (I think). Equivalent in US$ = $119,217

It's simply taking the piss. It would be cheaper for me to order US model (€36000). Pay the 10% customs charge (€3,600), pay VAT at 21% (7560), pay the Registration tax at 36% (€16977). It still only comes to around €65k, or just around HALF the US price. That half = profit, or subsidising US buyers, which is absolute bull**** in my opinion.

The only problem is being stuck with a LHD.

Ordering direct from Germany the base price is €67k, + 21% VAT (14070), + 36% Registration tax (24120) = €105000.

What the hell is going on?

Agree some options maybe extra over standard UK spec.

BUT....Assuming the yanks don't have to do anything silly to make the engine pass emisions then thats the MAIN option ticked !! :) :)

IIRC there is something or other than prevents buying a new MB in US and shipping back to Europe.

I guess no such restriction second hand.

woo UK rocks as per usual ! .... :/

dont mine me im just pi$$ed that i pay more for my cardboard box of a house than the guys with a tripple garage and mansion in the US

Even if you had the dash, steering, pedals, exhaust, cluster, lamps etc swapped (how about £15k to do that?) it would still be cheaper and would increase the resale value compared to a LHD car.

Hang on a minute!

Mr Walker! Fancy doing a few W204s? :)

I agree the yanks (some) do have large houses. however at least ours are built of brick and not balsa wood...

Slightest wind and its flat :)

you could buy new in the states, put in storage for 6 months, then import and not have to pay all the duty as you own it already. could save you mega bucks

How hard would that be a C63 waiting in the states for 6 months to get imported over here...

Nope....

Extended Holiday and road trip planned.... great :) :)

How much do you think it would actually cost to convert it?

Many American cars now can be converted RHD, dodge Rams, Mustangs etc and are not 'too' much more.

Certainly and interesting option...

Could you order a car to be delivered to a US dealer as RHD I wonder?

I know this can be done in Europe :)

Would be very interesting then, surely someone has thought of this before though.

No I believe there is a restriction on this for very obvious reasons.

I believe the answer is no. Bear in mind that all the cars ordered from a stealership in the USA are already there, shipped pre-wired for everything with a lot of options added in the US if required.

This avenue has been explored before and I think the answer was basically no.

Seems to make sense, there would be loads of US imports otherwise!

Because the US is not part of the EU (obviously) they are not subject to the same anti competition laws.

Whilst on holiday in Florida I walked into a Jaguar dealer and posed the question about an XJR saloon, Could I order a RHD and arrange to ship it back to the UK.

The dealer said, quite frankly there's nothing to stop them doing that at all, they could even arrange the shipping for me...one problem..If they did so, their franchise would be removed.

It would have been illegal (as in non compliance with anti-competition laws) for Jaguar to make that statement to any EU sited dealership...but not to the US dealer.

Any major motor manufacturer will be the same.

What really wierd in the US is that used car prices are quite high. That, coupled with lower new car prices and low interest rates, mean personal leasing rates are astonishingly low.
The standard college grads car is either BMW 328i or Mercedes C300 (and they are the *entry* level models!) available to lease for around $375/mth.

but then a 6 month old uk car would be cheaper bye then anyway wouldnt it

Your lucky ! The on the road price in Denmark is 197,600 euros.(£149,000 pounds) The pre-tax price is 59,666 euros. The vast majority of the price is tax.

The UK OTR list price is £51,317 which includes VAT @ 17.5%

BTW what is the pre-tax price of the C63 in Ireland ?

Agreed.Older BMW's are defiantly higher priced Stateside, sometimes substantially.

You can get a fully specced C63 here for about £55k. Thats got everything on it. I priced one up recently:(

Whilst over there (USA) recently, I had a nice long look at a CLK63 Black series. Price on the screen: $135,000
