Just a brief note on real world straight line performance

both cars were side by side at a steady 95mph
the C63 was a 457bhp version in M mode in 5th gear
the Carrera had engaged sports chrono
each had two occupants
both cars accelerated (full throttle) to approx 130mph
it was a short sprint..

i would have expected the Porsche to drive away from the C63 but the reality was their acceleration was almost identical through the speed range
im surprised by this as also the C63 would have been better starting from 3rd or even 4th gear. These AMG's are not bad eh

obviously i was not driving, a friend told me this and i believe it would have taken place in an appropriate environment, maybe a vmax type event

At Goodwood I could keep up with the GT3 in a straight line, but once in the bends it left me for dead.

Nice, I reackon if this was lower down the gears the C63 would have took it because of the massive mid range torque.

What year was the 911?

It's OK Simon, I won't stand a chance against your C63 around the bends in November. Or will I?

apparently the C63 driver used M and 5th to avoid the violence normally associated with kickdown in an attempt to avoid being told off by his wife...it didnt work

Porsche is a 2012

I straight lined a 997 (not sure if was an 's' though) from about 70, and seriously left him for dead...!!! Turbos and GTR's are the only things to fear !!!!

Thats pretty im[pressive if the old c class can keep up with the 991 C2s.

PKD, that's really good no chance of the driver messing up then.

It's a 63 AMG, so not sure why people are a bit surprised.

Looking at the stats on the Porsche site, 385bhp and 0-60 in 4.7 manual 4.5 for PDK so it’s about right as the standard C63’s hit 60 in 4.5 too, seems like they are very close in terms of straight line speed.

I'm just surprised at how nimble the Porsche is in the twisty bits...believe me the 1986 version is fun in corners...but only on a track.

the new ones are very nimble , well the 63 is quite heavy and simon drives like a girl..

the GT3 was unbelievable at GW very very special the 63s were ok ish down the straights in comparison but around the bends it was very different , i was having to brake really late to keep up and gain a little but couldnt keep that up for more than a lap or so
Pete (of Lucky P) was watching and was relatively amused at my vain attempts to keep up (chortle)

I think the performance figures you are quoting are for the older 997 model. The new 991 c2s has about 400 bhp.

i think you are correct E55 0-60 is still around 4.5 though:dk:

4.5 for manual
4.3 for PDK
4.1 for PDK and Sports Chrono package

They are pretty quick for a mid range 911

jeepers as brucie would say " didnt he do well" the merc engine has done 32,000 miles so is nicely run in well on this evidence very nicely run in:cool:
when i say there was nothing in it to be specific at no point did the porsche close on the 63, which still surprises me a little
still thats the real world for you:dk:
