C63 violently shakes when I select reverse or drive

As above. If it was changed in the last few weeks the dealer should be able to tell you and that would support any case you'd have with the garage that did the ATF change (or didn't or didn't cycle and drain it fully).

That's a big bill not to put some time into

Update: car has been inspected and found to have swarf in the gearbox oil - they sounded as if they can’t say exact reason therefore advise new gearbox/Torque converter.
Now… for the quote. £6901 including labour.
This is at a main dealer by the way so I know it’s top end but realistically i was expecting 3.5k maximum!
Sorry to hear your news. How long have you had the car?

Although eye watering, that seems very reasonable for a new gearbox, torque converter, labour and VAT from a main dealer.

Cant see any claim against the garage that did the ATF change. Just changing the fluid will not cause this. Not doing up the bolt and letting it all fall out might, or filling it with something that isn't ATF but there is no indication that there was anything wrong with the fluid at all. You might be able to find a lab that can test the fluid to check its the right stuff but if it is the right stuff, pinning the blame on the garage for consequential failure seems like a non-starter.

For example Gearbox Oil Analysis | Gearoil Testing | The Oil Lab

Car has only done 58k it’s not as if it’s on its last legs.

2346 miles since last service and oil change
There's something not quite right here. A low mileage car's transmission fails less than 2500 miles since a transmission oil change. That should not happen.

Out of interest, is there any possibility (on this particular model of car) that engine coolant can entrain with transmission fluid, ie, failed cooler?

I assume nothing untoward was noticed in the oil that was drained from it when serviced - and assume also that no attention was paid to its condition. Were a sample available (I know, out of the question) for analysis, it would be possible to ascertain whether the problem was post service or building prior to that.
Assuming it was after, the external (as opposed to engine coolant contamination or other mechanical failure) possibilities are insufficient oil (how much came out when the swarf was found?) either at service or subsequent leak, wrong oil (unlikely) or poor housekeeping at the servicing garage. Pretty sure pumps are used in the filling of this particular gearbox but that still leaves the possibility of contamination between bulk supply drum and pump filling. It is shocking how careless some are with bulk oil drums. Frequently sited just inside a door (easy position for taking delivery from a truck) and that door being open and dust blown in from outside a given. Open oil jugs left sitting atop the drums and not cleaned before use are a recipe for contamination of oil. Not saying that has happened in this case but can't exclude it as a possibility.

To prove the oil was contaminated you will need analysis and any dirt will show as silicon. If there is a possibility of coolant contamination then you should consider analysis to determine or eliminate that being a factor - to avoid a repeat failure. And the glad tidings from me continue. Swarf will possibly have circulated through the cooler and lines - requiring careful checking and cleaning (or replacement) if it has.

The oil analysis company I use is AlControl which can be found here >> Conwy oil analysis lab - Google Search though their website seems to be unavailable currently.

Ive used the oil lab for the M3 to check the big end shell condition pretty reasonal price wise

How did this end then hopefully you got it fixed for a reasonable price?
Hi there nope still does it only if I start up and don’t let the warm up though like if I’m in a rush and to be fair it’s not violent it’s like a vibration. Soon as she’s warmed up there’s nothing at all.
