C63 Coupe
Does anyone find they streak really badly? Seems like not enough arm pressure onto the windscreen. I'm getting really bad streaking on the way back down right in front of my eyes. Dealer is ordering new arm but I fear it will make no difference as the whole mechanism where it attaches to car just seems a bit weak.

This could be more to do with what you wash the car with or the quality of the blades.

Some products smear really badly and once on the blade are a PITA to remove. Try cleaning your screen and blades with either methalayted spirit or (and this really does work) cut a raw potato in half and wipe the screen and the blade then wash off any residue with clean warm water.

Get some replacement Bosch wipers. I had same problem and new wiper blades fixed it immediately.

You might find downgrading to regular C Class wipers may help. Maybe they didn't fit a C63 windscreen to your casr at the factory.

;)

My stock wipers on my car are excellent.

I replaced the stock wipers with BOSCH ones on my old C350 and didn't like them.

Not sure if MB are using a newer model of wipers but I am impressed.

I have the exact same issue on my coupe. I thought it was down to a change in screenwash. I swapped the right with left yesterday and seems to be a lot better.

Mine were fine, but had the car serviced and they do exactly the same thing you mentioned, clear fine on the way up and smear on the way back down.

Drove to Nottingham and back on Saturday, was hard enough keeping straight on a snow covered road without the smeared windscreen!

Rain-x :)

Simple to fix.

1. Get cloth
2. Apply vinegar to cloth
3. Wipe / clean each wiper

Done :)

If it persists clean your windscreen with a good glass cleaner.

It could be that MB cleaned your car with cheap product which has left a residue that smears on your windscreen or wipers.

I have the same problem on my E-Class Coupe (aka C-class) windscreen.

The wipers aren't the worst I've had recently (Range Rover Sport takes that spot) but some way short of the best (XKR and my SLS...both of which share one thing in common - really short blades).

I will try the vinegar and newspaper trick once I get a dry enough day!

Ok here is the science part.

It worked for my grand dad who swore by it. I used to laugh about it. Then after an unfortunate Rain Ex experience that I could not cure. I thought what the hell. It worked.

Something to do with potato alcahol (sic).

Do not use mashed or chipped potatoes.

i think its something to do with surface tension:dk:

Bruce i think you need to be more specific or someone will try a jacket potato with some exotic filling

STARCH.

It's something to do with the starch.

Potentially filling the invisible ridges in the glass (and as starch doesn't 'dissolve' in water, it won'y be washed away)?

I am just guessing here but it's surely the best scientific explanation so far???

You could be onto something here.

However history shows us that when Elizabeth 1st was alarmed at being unable to see out the windows of her coach. She dispatched Walter Raleigh (inventor of the Raleigh Chopper) to find a solution (big pun there)

Raleigh returned with 20 Benson & Hedges and. .... A Potato.

The day was wet and Raleigh ruined a perfectly good cloak showing Liz towards his detailing test.

The rest is history.

Bruce, I don't have any potatoes, will a carrot sliced down the middle suffice?

Lee

Sliced or diced carrot brings images that I would rather forget. Helicopter bed. Sweaty brow. Projectile vomiting. Yes. The hazards of eating a dodgy peanut on a good nights drinking.

Alas. Carrot is I fear unproven in windscreen cleaning.
