Hi
I have just bought a 1993 E200 cabriolet 2 litre . But the headrests at the rear are stuck up so i cant lower the roof,,,
i have found out there are sensors on the axle that have made them pop up (i think ) but is there a manual way to lower them not using the switch??
As i live in Bulgaria and the roads are bad ,big holes everywhere can they be disabled for now??

any help thanks

It is possible to de-activate the switches or eliminate them altogether but since they are an integral part of the rollover bars sensing/activation system this would effectively disable this safety feature completely. Definitely not advised!
[To lower the bars you may have to reset the axle switches manually and probably clear any fault codes and then you will be able to lower the roll bars by hydraulic control. ]
However the switches positions are adjustable and should be positioned against their respective suspension arms on full "droop" i.e. with the rear wheels freely hanging down to the full extension of the suspension. If they are positioned with the suspension arms level or only slightly extended this may give rise to premature triggering. You really need to familiar with the operation of this system to set it up correctly so I would advise taking the car to a Mercedes expert to do this.

e200 rear headrest

Hi
Just an update on what i did.
I found the fuse. the fuse was blown so replaced that but as i tried to work the switch and could hear the motor the fuse blows.
Because the headrests a held in position by a metal rod behind the headrests spring.
I took out the back seats and saw the holding mechanism, i wedged the pins which are on a both headrest out so this will allow the rests to go down and on trying the switch again they did !!!!. And now the roof works fine.
A temporary measure but it works now so thanks for all replies

I had this same problem i.e rollover protection deployed, if you hold the switch to the up position for about 10 secs it relatches the mechanism. Then just lower them with theswitch. It's in the handbook.
