I recently discovered that my SL 500 r231 facelift doesnt have valves in the exhaust for sport mode and in fact has a sound generator in the boot for sport mode / sport plus noise, to be honest i wish i never started to investigate making it noisier as now i know its fake noise i can’t unhear it as im driving 😩. I assume that an sl63 exhaust actually has genuine by pass valves or similar for sport mode which would give me what i want which is something very quiet for long cruising and something more fun when required.

So my question is can i retro fit an exhaust from a similar year sl63, has anyone done this?

Just get rid of the rear silencer and replace it with a bit of stainless straight through pipe. That’s what I did to my CLK 500 and it sounds a LOT better! Oh and a twin tip tail pipe jobbie. Real noise. 👍

Have your centre resonator removed, check my video here: (yes I know you dont have the '63, but the same princible applies)
