I am a little confused/worried having done some searching on bluetooth functionality about whether my new 2008 W211 will just work with my Iphone when I get it at the weekend.

Basically the dealer stated that the car has integrated bluetooth and it is a few second job to pair my phone to the car when I pick it up. This all seemed ok as my current vehicle has integrated bluetooth and I leave the phone in my pocket it pairs and when I use it the sound comes from the speakers/radio goes off and I speak into a mic by the RVM. Having done some searching it appears everyone mentions cradles, connectors etc. for bluetooth functionality in their MBs, there are no connectors in the vehicle I am buying and now I think about it I didn't see a mic when I took the test drive so now I am worried the salesman hasn't given me all the facts?

So my question is in a 2008 W211 with Audio 20/50 (not sure which) and integrated bluetooth will I just be able to pair my phone and then use the functions of the audio system to dial calls etc. without any additional cables/cradles etc.?

Hope someone can put my mind as am worried I need to broach the subject before handing over my cash at the weekend?????

If it has integrated Bluetooth (standard on the W211 from 06/2008) then the simple answer is yes, you will just be able to pair your phone and then use the functions of the audio system to make & receive calls with no other hardware.

Longer answer is that if an MB car has Telephone Prewire then you can, if you want, use a separate Bluetooth cradle that takes over some of the functions of your phone (the external transmission/reception to & from the cell). This is the only factory option for Bluetooth Telephony on anything but the latest MB cars.

Don't forget to ask the salesman/woman to pair up your phone at handover, or this site will show you how to do the pairing if you want to check it out before you pick up the car.

I think the above answer is the correct approach - before handing over the cash, ask the salesman to pair your phone with the car for you. If it does, then great. If not, then he has some explaining to do!

It is a Oct 2008 car and as far as I know there is no pre-wiring telephone connectivity there is nothing in the glovebox (well just an Aux input) and nothing in the centre console so I have to assume it is the 1st option? At least what you have decribed does seem to match what the salesman said (and the web advert did say bluetooth phone connectivity) but I think I will still get him to show me how it works before handing over the cash!!!!!
