Just picking your brains, that time of year again :D

For practicality the CL, but had to say Ferrari....just coz its a Ferrari.

The CL is an amazing car and I'd give one of my testicles for it BUT I'd give both for the Ferrari. They say that once youve driven a Ferrari you will never want to be without one. I reckon it's true as my mate is on his 3rd and has just put the deposit down on a F430 F1. His girlfreind of 8yrs has walked out on him over it. She wanted a bigger house and he wanted the car. :D

He wont let anyone drive any of his Ferraris but just bieng apassenger is quite amazing and makes you feel rather special, and the noise from those engines :D :D :D

I chose the CL.

Why? Couple of reasons.

Firstly, its so damn practical. Its comfortable, roomy, quiet, and yet goes like a rocket ship. I know - I've been priveleged to drive Matts car.

Secondly, and this is a sad reflection on our society, but you'd get less abuse in the CL. God, I'll wager not many people know what it is! And all most will see of it is the boot as it races off into the distance.

The Ferrari is a wonderful car, but (surely) a weekend prospect only? Unless you're minted, it would be foolish to even consider one as a daily driver. The effect it would have come resale would keep you awake at night.

I've driven a 360 Challenge Stradale, and whilst it blew me away, I just couldn't envisage driving it across continents. The CL I could.

So, in summary:

Weekend toy: 430, every time.
Anything else: CL65, every time.

But that's the big problem with Ferrari according to the experience of friends!! I have three friends who own or have owned Ferrari - all F360 models - and all say never again, because they hardly ever had it to drive!!

#1. Owned about 6 months. Dealer bought back after continued and repeated seriously faults with engine and gearbox.

#2. Had for 12 months plus so far, scared to drive it. Every time he has driven it, it's ended up at the dealer!! Wants to sell but insulted by the part-ex price, and doesn't want test pilots at the door in a private sale.

#3. Had for 3 months so far, and uses it, but his dealer knows him by name. As do the people at the garage that look after the Ferrari dealers own recovery truck. When the Ferrari was recovered after a breakdown in the middle of a huuuuge crossroads in Birmingham, the truck had some sort of failure that meant they couldn't get the car off the back!! The truck (with Rarri still on the back!!) was towed to the HGV place to be fixed  , before heading back to the Ferrari dealer to have the 360 fixed!!

Maybe the F430 will be different??

Much as I love the CL, if I was offered the choice the two mentioned, I'd go for the F430.

CL every time, it won't go wrong, its faster (in the real world , not round a track) ....

Been a passenger in many Ferraris and driven a 355 F1 round Goodwood, and while it was good fun, i prefer the 65 (having driven one of them as well ;) ) the looks of the CL are classic understated beauty, the Ferrari is just a shiny willy extension in my eyes....hardly anyone will drive one as it's meant to be driven, do a thousand mile journey in the 430 and you'll get out crippled, do a thousand in the CL and you'll want to drive another thousand ....

It doesn't attract attention and comes up with the goods when needed, and lets face it when the city bonuses come out you won't be able to shake a cat without hitting a 430 in central london....

As Matts signature used to say, only 36 CL65's made it to the uk !

Isn't that a little biased, asking on an MB forum site (or just testing loyalty :D ) ???

Despite not currently driving a MB, I would prefer the MB over the Italian.

Two reasons..... Essex and lottery winners.

Not an easy question to answer.

The CL only has street cred to those that know what it is.

The Ferrari carries a HUGE sign just above its roof saying LOOK AT ME

No one really looks at the driver and only want to speak to them to try and get a ride in the car of their dreams.

The Ferrari is NOT an every day car, judging by previous models it will breakdown, and on a regular basis.

Park the Ferrari anywhere in public and you risk getting it keyed by some moronic idjutt.

The Ferrari is a car for track days, and for looking at.

The CL65 is for driving.

If you want a car for looking at go for the Ferrari.

If it was me, I would only buy the Ferrari for the above reasons, but I would really enjoy those track days :D :D

Good luck with your decision,
John

CL for me ...

I like to know my car will start in the morning on the way to work ...

and nobody say its a weekend car .... Whats the point in spending all that money and not using it all the time ?

In this case i would go with the heart and not the head, Ferrari it has to be.

stay with what you've got - unless servicing every 3 weeks with at least one tune up and a ride home on a relay truck between sounds like a good idea.

You live with that for the feeling the car gives you. I don't think it's something you can explain unless you've felt it but I know I did with a TVR Cerbera. Ferraris are far more reliable since the 348 - they need to be driven not pootled about once a month.
