Even since 1997 the C-Class has got cheaper in real terms. My C250TD auto cost a few pounds short of £30k. I have the receipt.

I remember when Mark 1 Golfs came with no radio - unless you forked out £100 (in 1982!)

The final bill for my 1986 560SEL including all the Lorinser add on's Body kit, Wheels, fridge, curtains, extra wood etc was a eye watering 72K. The 280TE with every extra except leather came to £21K. Remember visiting a Ford garage with a friend in the early 90' who paid over 15K for a Sierra Ghia! You must remember that in the 80's Mercedes were lucky to shift 10K cars a year in the UK and residuals were phenomenal. Now days they are selling 100K + and they depreciate like the rest

The 911 Flatnose sold for proper money, at 110k GBP in 1985 !!!!!

In 1978 I bought my first house for £11k. Ten years later I bought a second hand W124 estate for £17.5k. Sold it 5 years after that for £14k. I wish cars would hold their value as they use to!

a few years ago i wnet through some old what cars and used their infor to work out my then '96 sportline was best part of £60k

in 96 you could have almost bought a house for that which by now would be worth £150k as opposed to £5 for the car!

Funny you should say that, I paid almost exactly that for a brand new house in March 1997. Bought for £65K, sold 2004 for £180K.
