I pulled out behind a car going around the Waitrose car park today. He paused at the give way markings, well, over them actually, then engaged reverse and ran straight into me. He first tried to say I drove into him but, as he had already said he was reversing into a space and I was stationary, waiting for him to complete what I thought was a forward manoeuvre, he quickly retracted that position and exchanged details.

Hopefully he won't change his mind as my car has suffered a crack to the front bumper, damage to the trim and paint scraped off the front lamp surround, which I don't think will be cheap. In addition, when I got a mile down the road the parking sensor on that side fell backward into the bumper and now goes off intermittently, I guess whenever it bumps against the inside of the bodywork. Any ideas on how to retrieve this?

Thanks for your kind thoughts Malcolm, a gentleman as ever.

I just got CCTV footage from Waitrose. It clearly shows me stationary and him backing into me.

Now my main concern, side from the damn parking sensor going off every five minutes, is that the repairs will be done by a non MB workshop.

You can insist that it is done by the garage of your choice. Also if there is no doubt you could claim through his insurance - and they should supply a similar or at least decent hire car. Or again you could use an Accident Management Company who will manage the claim and get their fees of the third party insurance company.

There is no doubt now I have the CCTV footage. Currently the claim is being handled by my insurers accident management company but I seem to recall reading elsewhere on this forum that Mercedes-Benz themselves offer a similar service?

I think they all do partly to get the repair work, and no doubt they charge for their service too!

Just phoned Mercedes-Benz Accident Management on 08000 733 377, who are now dealing with the claim. Very helpful.

Oh, I still need that, the car is driveable and it will be days before anyone can start the work. Thanks Malcolm.

I am correct, if the fault is with the other party I don't have to pay any excess?

OK thank you please delete it. you may be able to unplug them at 11 in the link.

Poor old computer did not like this with 37 windows open and a 3k file never mind aye :)

All your costs should be recoverable from the third party via his insurance company. Insist on a MB garage doing it and you should have a replacement car for the duration but no doubt the MB management co. will sort this for you
