Car Purchase problems

That's great news.

Last Saturday, I both bought and sold a car and both the V5's landed with me yesterday inc my retention certificate from taking off a private plate that was also done on that Saturday.

Fingers crossed it#s with you soon ...
Did you do the paperwork online? Trying to see what are the chances to get mine soon. Got new documents after change of plate after 4 days and retention in 5 or 6.

Yes, all of it was done online by the previous owner and then me. Might be worth giving them a call as they seemed to answer the phones fairly quickly once you get past the "press, this button, then that button"

Update............The V5 arrived yesterday.
Collecting it this evening and will draft an advert.
The dealer gets one last opportunity to buy it back but I don't think he wants it.

Got new docs in 4 days. Was able to put private plate straight away and all under free 7 days Merc insurance. I wanted to avoid paying for changes to my own policy twice and it was accomplished.

Final update............I have bought the car for the missus:D
I can't be bothered with tyre kickers and low ballers wasting my time with stupid offers so I am giving my Dad the same price he paid for it.
The wifes Focus has been a great workhorse after Ibought it for my last two years of work before retiring. Apart from tyres, all its needed is a new clutch and a fuel pump. Not bad for £750.
Holding off taxing and insuring the Kia until end of the month as the Focus insurance runs out 3rd June. Will tax and insure on 1st June.

I think I have earnt some brownie points with the missus.

The registered keeper is just for the police to know where to send the fines!

Can I reclaim the VED for the remaining 11 months without the V5?

It would have been automatic had you sold it to the trader and then sent of the V5 again.

I just received the V5 for the Polo I bought on 7th March .

As with the other car bought a month earlier , just a couple of days short of two months .

Interesting to note that details of the previous keeper are no longer included . Perhaps to do with the new Data governance regulations coming in later this month .

I will need to see if I can still obtain the full list of previous owners .

I hate paying the admin fee and usually get away without paying it - my point to them is that part of the job role is admin so why should I pay £10, £15, £20 or whatever it is to tap on a few buttons when it's part of there job in the first place. Mention it to them at least three times and see what happens. I changed motorbikes on Saturday and they wanted £25.55 to do it. The admin fee was £25 and I managed to get that waived and pay the grand total of £0.55.

I notice that yesterday. Like you state it's probably something to do with the data regulations or similar nonsense, which still won't stop our details been sold on to third parties anyway.

Good news

Aviva say changes are free when done online, but incur an admin fee if done over the phone. But my experience is that if you have tried to do this online but failed for whatever reason, they will happily do it over the phone for you for free.

It happened about a week ago. Saw posts on another forum mentioning it. So I will never know if it was male or female owner, I was betting on male. So now every trader can say in ad: "One female owner" ;-)

I think that somewhere in the UK there's an old lady that must have driven thousands of cars to the shops and back once a week.

Her spouse must be that elderly gentleman who is a retired doctor and drives further thousands of cars to the golf course and back every weekend.

Yes, honestly, that's my better half! She has a 2008 VW Eos which goes to Sainsburys twice a week and averages 800 miles between annual MOTs! When out together we take my Mazda double cab pickup all the costs of which -being self employed-
are allowable for tax purposes.
The Eos will soon be sold as she wants a E class cabrio and genuinely does look as if it's just left the factory.

Why would you want that?
Because I often contact previous owners to ask about history of cars I buy , see if they still have spare keys , and the like .

That , and I just like to know who owned my cars and how they were cared for .

Also to make sure it 's not ex rental, taxi, police, etc, etc.
