As you can see from some of the posts in this thread, including your own, the French have not cornered the market in arrogance.

Which bit of my post did you consider arrogant?

Are you French by any chance? You seem a little irritated ;)

In some parts of the world Brits have an unenviable reputation for rudeness, arrogance, and to put it politely, uncultured behaviour, so name calling in this context is somewhat hypocritical.

Another statement that can't be denied, but what is your point exactly?
Who is name calling (and which name, arrogant?) and who is hypocritical?

Good to understand exactly what and to who you are attributing your statements, that's all.

ItalianTuneUp - this is a wind up, surely?!

If not then you must consider your feelings of superiority in the way you parked your rather superior self in your rather superior car amongst the local peasants.

No, I'm English, hence the sense of fair play.

"Arrogant:- having or showing an exaggerated opinion of one's own importance, merit, ability, etc; conceited; overbearingly proud"

e.g. "I have also found some of them to be very snooty and rude and they receive a deserved raspberry if I feel like it. Driving a huge S-class tends to 'excite' some of the more arrogant and snooty ones too - the look on some of their irritated faces was priceless when I parked the UK-reg S-class in a small space outside a restaurant with parktronic just in front of one of their cars LOL ;)"

"Hypocrisy:- the practice of professing standards, beliefs, etc, contrary to one's real character or actual behaviour, esp the pretence of virtue and piety 2. an act or instance of this"

The point I was making is that some of us are no better than the French in regard to arrogance, rudeness and snootiness; in effect the pot calling the kettle black - or hypocrisy.

every time we went for a meal we struggled to find out what was in the menu apart from a couple places where people were friendly

WHAT??!! You are kidding me, right?! You go to a foreign country and slate the entire population because you can't understand the menu?
Did you think about perhaps learning a few of the basics? Or maybe invest in a phrase book or app?
You are in THEIR country, why should they have to speak English to you just because you can't be bothered to make half an ounce of effort? That is shameful arrogance.

Personally I think that the OP is kidding you (us).

Recent member, loads of posts. Opens a thread bragging about speeding through France then another whinging about being caught. This, in turn, brings out the xenophobic to air their prejudices - meanwhile op Is rubbing his hands together in glee at the reaction he has caused.

Ex/banned member maybe?

Milton7, thanks for your opinions/assumptions.

Now let's deconstruct them:

"you must consider your feelings of superiority" :

???

"your rather superior self" :

Me, superior? Your words, not mine. Care to explain your assumption?

" in your rather superior car" :

Again, your words not mine. It is a great car, it's true, but I don't understand your point - are you jealous? Surely not? Second hand, like mine, they are cheap as chips - check autotrader for yourself. If I were to assume, which I'm not, then it is quite possible, and likely even, that your car is more expensive than mine, so what's your point???

"amongst the local peasants." :

Why did you invent new words here? I never used these words, so?

If you will listen, I will explain the situation that occurred:

I drove into a big open gravel car park outside a restaurant out in the countryside frequented by tourists. Every car in the car park that I saw bore french number plates. It was 30+ degrees and so I was looking for some shade to park the car. As we arrived at the tail end of lunchtime, there were few shady spots to park, but I spotted one place at the end of a line of cars that was in the shade, nearest the restaurant, but it was fairly tight, but not obstructing anything or car. I parked there and as I was parking I couldn't help but notice the look of derision and disgust as I parked there, from a large group of people on one table in particular.

After exiting the car, I walked past the table of the 'disgusted' and heard fluent french being spoken. They wiped the look off their face as I approached, but I'd already clocked them. Ask them why they looked at me this way? Foreign plates? Nice merc? Best shady spot? Who knows, and I certainly don't really give a rat's ass why, life is too short to be bothered by people like that in my book. But it's just unpleasant. And it was there, not imagined.

There were other occasions and so this was not a one off, hence I don't draw conclusions from just one event.

I think I have explained most of the points you raise here in the reply to Milton, see above.

If you are trying to say something different to Milton, then fire away.

do you really think I haven't made my best to talk to them in their language I talk a little bit French that I learned in the school but I'm not fluent and when you go to a tourist place yes I expect to have at least a English menu and the things like police , hospitals and stuff like that they should too !
And you don't know me to call me arrogant , so wash your mouth before you talk about me!!
