Central locking machine gunning!

Hi all,

The passenger doors lock has started to 'machine gun' on locking/unlocking all of a sudden. Anyone know what the fix is for this? It is just the one door that does it. My immediate problem is that sometimes it stays unlocked and I have no way of locking it! If anyone knows what/why this happens i'll have a go, if not it's off to MB. If this is the case, any idea how much??

Hi there, this a very common fault, I believe you will have to replace the door lock actuator.

Cant remember the cost off the top of my head, between £60-£80 i think but dont quote me. Changed one on a family members cars quite a while back. The door card will need to come off to get access to it, its a bit fiddly but can be done.

Had this done to my E class. £59.83 inc. Quite a difficult job on an E cos the window channel rivets have to be drilled out to get at the thing then replaced.

That was the part price in Apr 09 for an E class.

Just had a quote from MB to do this. 189 pounds... bit more than i wanted to pay. im quite technical, how easy/hard is it to take off the door panel and change it? thanks
