From memory it was very tight to get into the tensioner and you'll need a decent T55 Torx bit. The hole is a devil to find as you can't see it so it's all by feel !
Although I suppose that analogy can be use elsewhere depending on if shes a lights on or lights off kinda girl
It's not difficult, just fiddly from what I remember.
i`ll be doing this on my E55 soon, ive also heard the belt it tight, the tensioner bolt is near the crank pully , use a little mirror to see it as its not visable otherwise.
Hi, the tensioner is sprung loaded to keep the tension on the belt. When supplied new they have a pin to hold them "open" so that you can fit the belt then take the tension off with a socket and bar before removing the metal pin. Some designs are torx others a bolt head to apply the leverage necessary. There is no need to remove the unit. Find a suitable socket fit to your bar and wind off the tension. Then put in say an allen key through the small hole to hold it while you change the belt. Take the tension up again and pull out the key letting the pulley tension the belt. As stated before a mirror helps you to see the hole alignment.
