C 220 CDI 51 Plate
Evening all, I have a C220 CDI 51 plate (W203?)

I have been through the manual and the settings and I cannot figure out how to change the digital read of the speed from Kilometres to Miles (kph to mph)(bottom left of the screen).

I made sure the option between display figures in kilometres or miles is set to miles.

Does anyone know if it can be done and if so could you please tell me how to do it?
Would be extremely handy when setting the cruise control just to be sure I'm legal and not sitting at 68-9 thus annoying everyone who has there cruise set at 70.
I know I could just figure out the mph of the kph but I'm lazy and can't be bothered doing arithmatic (albeit simple) but at least im honest!

Thanks :o

from what i have i gathered u cant change it at all, got the same issue as well

It can be done but not by the cluster menus.
The reason being that it's a legal requirement (in UK) to be able to see both mph and Kph at the same time.

You need to get to a decent Indy with a STAR machine to make the change. (I think it's something to do with a changing country to Ireland or something.)

As being UK vehicle you use gauge for UK roads and KM/h is only if you decide to go abroad. That way you cant explain yourself to police saying you dont know conversion :P

Most UK cars will keep KM/h for that reason only.

Thanks everyone for the feedback.

That Sucks! :wallbash:

I'm guessing if Merc had just put it on the opposite side of the needle like we find in most cars there wouldn't be an issue and I could have my mph on my digi readout?

For anyone else who isn't all that great at maths and prefers to concentrate on the road rather than conversions here's a list.
I'm half tempted to print this off onto a sheet of A4, laminate it, cut it out and sellotape it to the dash. Only thing that's holding me back is I would look a bit 'special', my dash wouldn't be as pretty and people would always ask "why don't you just look at the needle?" and I would have to make up some excuse for my pettiness!

mph = km/h
1.0 = 1.609
5.0 = 8.047
10.0 = 16.093
20.0 = 32.187
30.0 = 48.280
40.0 = 64.374
50.0 = 80.467
60.0 = 96.561
70.0 = 112.654
80.0 = 128.748
90.0 = 144.841

Being unable to read tiny km/h writing on dial without reading glasses no good for driving, when sur le continent, I affixed some little coloured dot labels to the dial next the main speed limits.

As already said above it can be done but a main dealer wont do it. Just take the car to anyone with STAR and ask them remove UK mode. You will still be able to set it to KMPH if you go abroad. You will also be able to display other info the position of the digital speed like outside temp.

Hi npuk, i'm getting the air con sorted on Thursday under the sale of goods act from the dealer I bought the car from, this means it will also be plugged into a STAR to reset the EC light. If I ask the guy nicely to remove UK mode does it then just give me more options in my settings or can it only be done from the STAR (setting it to mph) meaning when I come to sell the car I will have to plug it into STAR again to change it back to KPH?

regards

edit : meant to say its not a Merc dealer so they shouldn't complain too much about changing it.

Once UK mode is removed you can set the options via the cluster menu, it doesnt have to be done by STAR.

why don't EU cars have to show mph all the time in case they come to the UK?

No need because when they get caught speeding they just get a slap on their wrist and told to move on whereas if a Brit gets caught abroad it's a hefty on the spot fine, a night in the cells or both!

beeen wondering that myself..nice tips.
