I know this sounds crazy but trying to change my vito 1999 108d headlight bulbs as the dipper isn't working..is there an easy way to get at them other than removing all the skin off my knuckles??

No it is just as it looks a real struggle. Thought it would look cool to drive round with the lights on auto but went through so many bulbs and struggled every time to change them I gave up and have not changed a bulb since!

It is just another example of poor design by Mercedes ( like having to take the bumper off to replace a headlight unit on a ML)

You miss the point MB assumes that you are rich enough to have a mechanic do the work.

Spot on Marku. Same problem with with my E270 cdi. Not a job for someone with chubby hands - probably have to teach a 10 yr old with small hands to help you.

Don't know about the OP's 638 but yes it is a bit fiddly on the 639.

On my wife's A4 you need to remove the air intake to get at one of the headlight units though, so it's not just an MB thing.
