changing the display from temperature to gears?

is there a way of changing the display from temperature to which gears the car is in? Was told its temperature by default but this could be changed?
Any idea on that?

1st models to have this were the late '99 W202s/W208s had this on Tiptronic models. The gear selected was displayed on a tiny dotmatix display next to the time.

Mines got temp and gear on the dash

Wifes seems to have gears all the time but you have to find the temp via the steering wheel buttons very annoying.
