Changing tyres in France - on a sunday?

Glad your home safe and only £15 too. There has to be something said for living in the UK.

I was in Finland recently.

I firmly believe everyone of us take it for granted living in UK.:D

There are a few things here that are good, that is true. I wonder if they genuinely couldn't do it (i.e. against policy) or just didn't want to? Was it a conspiracy, or just the way it is there.. i guess i'll never know, a bit annoying to drive home at 50mph only to have it repaired so easily but c'est la vie.

Was a bad france trip all in as i also got snapped by a speed camera coming down the french side of the mont blanc - speed limit 90kph, speed limiter set to 92kph (as my satnav says this is the real 90!) but the incline of the hill meant the limiter had let me go up to 96kph - so quite a small margin on their cameras, assuming it was me it snapped. As an aside, my limiter in the SLK is very strict, whereas in the E320cdi then it seems to let it go over by a few mph?

I've been flashed in France going a fair bit more than that over the limit, and never had anything in the post ... yet!

sadly they didn't come up in my google search, hence the trip via paris - good to know for the next trip though, and maybe for others in here - go armed with a printout of the autobacs, feu vert, norauto and the like - can you recommend any other chains that the information is obtainable for on the internet? i don't mind preparing a pdf for the folks on here - although it may get out of date then at least better than nothing?

So, 450 miles at 50 mph, what was your mpg like?

It was actually quite pitiful - i was quite disappointed so i think i have something that needs replacing (i also had the angel remap done, but didn't see any mpg increase from it).. drumroll please...

447 miles, average speed 45.7 with 42.9mpg

Bad, huh? After having the thermostat changed a few weeks back i managed 42.7 on a 70mph motorway run, but haven't managed to recreate it since so something must be kaputt. Someone blamed it on my wheels, being 18's, but i spoke to someone else with the same wheels and they get 50mpg out of theirs on a motorway run. Bad times :(

Yes, not good. I was expecting closer to or above 50mpg!!

I've been flashed in France 30 kmsmore than that over the limit many times and never heard either.

I've just come back from Austria - went through a village on Sunday - forgot the speedlimit and was snapped by a camera - wonder if I will hear anything?

I too had the Angel remap. Before remap my average mpg was 39 and on a run would get around 42. On run down to Canterbury - went very gently as no rush and got an average of 55. That amazed me. Over the two weeks - including cruising on autobahn at 180 kph - average was 45.3 mpg so well chuffed.:thumb: (puts on baseball cap back to front)..:D

I believe that there is no reciprocal agreement with Austria either - so i think you should be ok..

I'd expected similar, but maybe 10% less as the E is fatter, from mine. My MPG for the whole trip was 36.3mpg - when we did the same trip 2 years ago in my 330ci e46 then my overall average was 32mpg.

I keep whinging about it, but there doesn't seem to be a magic pill. The angel guy suggested a MAF change, so i might try that next..
