If you think the petrol companies are the enemy then you are very much mistaken. Petrol prices are fair it's the taxation that is high.

I know the oil companies have recently announced record profits, but they are megacorps operating at tight margins and if they were a small business they would be considered at risk of going under, I'm not joking.

And as mentioned in the "main" PipelineCard thread, the vast majority of those profits are made overseas and from other activities such as chemicals, trading, refining, etc. Fuel retailing in the UK barely runs at break-even (which is why so many petrol stations have closed down in the last 5 years).

I see PipelineCard are now plugging SatNavs on their website  and no June or July updates have been posted ...

Fuel retailing may well be very tight on margin but I understand road fuel production isn't so tight. Apparently it appears tight because all the costs of refining all the oil is put onto road fuel. This makes this expensive but subsidises other oil products. (allegedley).

Its the margins of the stations that are tight, not the refineries. They're doing just fine :)

Unleaded motor gasoline (bought in thousands of tonnes, direct from the refinery, on the European market) is around 24p a litre.
