Sorry if this has been asked before, however, im in Berlin and have limited mobile Internet so can't search

I've had the message 'check oil at next refuel', there's no dipstick and the oil level dosent come up in the 'secret menu'... How can I check the oil?

Its a facelifted W203 c180 kompressor

I used to see this message (too frequently) on my old W220 and would put a litre of oil in until it next flashed up.

Maybe start with half a litre in the smaller engine?

BTW don't take it too literally, I made that mistake and filled up at a motorway service station. I had no idea that a litre of oil could cost so much, me and the cashier exchanged words.

On the W203 the on screen menu's should have a check oil function? Well it does in mine. You scroll through the normal windows and it is there. Car must be level and at running temp with ignition on but engine off. It then takes a few minutes to check.

You have a dipstick, much easier imo.
the stick is to the left back rocker cover and yellow in colour if me serves me well - its like a wire rather than stick

The facelift W203 C180K is equipped with the M271 engine, and it DOES have an engine oil dipstick.

It is at the rear of the engine, to the left, as you stand in front of the car facing the engine bay. Right behind the exhaust manifold. It has a yellow bit at the top.

The M271 engine as fitted to the W203 does not have electronic oil quantity sensor hence no 'secret menu'.

From the US Owners Manual:

'Check Engine Oil At Next Refueling

When the message Check Engine Oil At Next Refueling appears while the engine is running and at operating temperature, the engine oil level has dropped to approximately the minimum level.

When this occurs, the warning will first come on intermittently and then stay on if the oil level drops further.

Visually check for oil leaks. If no obvious oil leaks are noted, continue to drive to the nearest service station where the engine oil should be topped to the required level with an approved oil specified in the Factory Approved Service Products pamphlet.

For information on approved engine oils, refer to the Factory Approved Service Products pamphlet (USA only) or contact an authorized Mercedes-Benz Center.'

Cheers for all your replies... Im am a dipstick... It does have a dipstick... I remember reading it doesn't so didn't check (obviously thats on other w203 engines) ... Checked last night and the oil is low...added some more... 940 miles to Berlin maybe made it burn a little off... No sign of any problems (leaks etc)... No issues today coming to Düsseldorf
