I have the use of a GL450 CDi for a few days. It's quite nice to drive, the diesel V8 is lush and the interior is a very nice place to be, but for £75k I should blummin' well think so!!

All of a sudden ferrying around a party of 7 doesn't seem such a chore

So you got it in the end pal?

Looking forward to a more in-depth review later, these are just about coming into my sort of price range and it'd be rude not at least own a V8 diesel once in my life.

I always thought you should get a c63

I like them,

Looked at one at our local Mercedes garage, it had twin sunroofs, dvds on rear seats and the very far most seven seats even moved forward and back and folded flat electrically. The model we looked at was £80K with this spec...

Thing is they are already (as least in GL320Cdi mode) high £20's, I guess fuel to be around 20 - 30mpg depending upon model.

Like them though they look and probably are huge, I parked my ML when I had one next to one and its so much higher. The chrome roof bars and rails also look really good,

Surely as a second hand buy an awful lot of car. Your right though new price....wow but then its only the same as a Range Rover and round here you get them with cornflakes...

Any sort of W204 isn't big enough for me, plus 516lbs/ft of torque in the V8 CDi and 'only' 443 in the C63. :thumb:

It's your Chrissie Prezzie.
ENJOY !!

I've done 25 miles around Milton Keynes so far, consisting of mainly *****ing around the shopping centre, crawling looking for parking (has there been some sort of disaster, end of the world type scenes here) and the 0-70mph x 15 nature of getting around here which hammers consumption.

So far, 20.1 mpg. My E320 CDi would have returned 30 I think. I already hate my car. :wallbash: :(

I've just seen that my iPad autocorrect has messed up the thread title

This one is fairly standard, the rear row of seats still appears/disappears electrically, a single sunroof, reversing camera, Comand, Bluetooth, heated memory seats etc.

It's somewhat huge as well, with boot space even with the rear seats up. It looks economy not as bad as I was expecting. I have a few big trips planned over the weekend so I'll be keeping a record.

Yup, this one is a 60 reg with 3,000 miles and would be around 65k in a dealership I think. Going to be a while before I end up with one. A 420 CDi would do ;)

Cheapest one on the Auto Trader is £19,995, but that's 'only' the 320....

They're great cars, so much better than ML's despite being based around the same platform. I've got to say my GL does run out of steam a little when pushed hard but if I want to drive around like that I jump in the E-cab so that's not an issue, the GL is like driving around in your armchair, effortless and smooth.. totally intoxicating, far easier to drive than the E.

Fuel economy is ok considering the size of the car, get 23-24 around town and 30ish on a long run but again, didn't buy it for economy I bought it because I liked it and it was a good deal on a rare (in comparison to its competition) car.

That's pretty good for the engine size of car etx

Sweetpea. The 63 has bags more power again and still a lot of peak torque. There is that peppermint green interiored one. Grab it, S63 you'd love it. I know I would

In all honesty, if I was to go the AMG route, it'd have to be a W211 E63.

Why old man's car? Grab an ML63 - same width, better traction, lots more fun and practicality. Perfect car for under 50 (and above).

Here's two against each other. Of course, ML wins :)

Looks like the S class humps it unless the ml wasn't giving it the beans. An ML63 is a rocket ship but I'd just prefer an S class

I'm missing my SBS Brake Hold feature, apparently no equivalent on the GL?

I like the instant consumption meter. It returns 40mpg at 40mph on CC, havent't tried any faster yet.

I like the switchable air suspension. Comfort down the rutted lane to the house and around town, Sport everywhere else. Can't see if it's possible to stream MP3 from my iPhone, but it pairs up instantly and the Linguatronic works well.

It's feckin' HUGE!

Today's 60 mile trip into Hertfordshire returned 27.5mpg, not quite as good as I hoped.

Interestingly, on CC at 40mph it was showing 40mpg. At 52mph it was showing 40mpg. At 60 and 70mph it was showing 40mpg. This was on the billiard table flat surfaces, a slight incline would knock that down to 20 something. I think if I were able to demontrate more throttle restraint and the bits at either end of the Motorway bit weren't so fiddly then 30mpg is possible. I've covered nearly 200 miles and used just over a quarter of a tank.

The 7 up taxi duties were a spectacular success, the car handling and performing almost the same. All were in comfort as well. Interior was squeak and rattle free, though there was more wind noise than expected.

I no longer want my own car back.:wallbash:

I returned this car this morning. My own car feels like I'm sitting on the floor, the suspension is too harsh and the engine far too noisy lol, but I knew that would happen.

I used around 92 litres of fuel, though I can't be sure the tank was totally full when I collected it, covered 520 miles returning just under 26mpg. On some journeys it gave me 30mpg, on the ones soley in town only 18-20mpg. I'm confident once the 'new toy' effect has worn off then the average would be nearer 30mpg and 600 miles from the 100 litre tank, as I couldn't stop myself performance testing the thing. It's disturbingly fast for what it is, and on Sport setting actually quite chuckable through corners.

Buy me one, somebody?

I was quite surprised at how well you can throw it in to corners in sport mode love doing that on the twistys to and from Manchester... not sure the passengers appreciate it so much though!!
