Any recomendations on which polish to use for exhaust tips? I have tried autoglym and megiuars nxt so far and fancy a change.

Autosol. These are mine (on the SL, not the Vito :D):

Yep, another vote for autosolv... got my wheels sparkling again after a couple hours detailing (unlacquered lips:doh:)

Shiney sinks is a very mild cutting paste with with (citric I think) acid. It should work well on exhausts and it's mild enough not to scratch. I know because it is used a lot by the narrowboating fraternity, of which I'm one, for brass fittings where the mild acid is great at removing tarnish. For the same reason it is good at removing the crud from exhausts.

I know, there is a certain contradiction in owning a (nearly) 500 bhp S600 and a narrow boat (max speed 4 mph from a 35 hp engine). I like to get to the boat very quickly and then chug about on it very slowly!

I'd also say autosol, it really is fantastic. I've used autoglym metal polish in the past, and it too gives a nice finish, maybe slightly shinier in some cases, but it didn't seem as abrasive meaning that it didn't always remove nastier marks. Therefore, I prefer autosol.

Autosol for me to. You wouldn't get it at the moment though. An old toothbrush a squeeze of the white stuff and merrily apply.

wheres the best place to get Autotsol from? Halfords? online? a link would be very much appreciated... my chrome could do with a going over on my W202 :-)

hey guys what about my dishes, they have gotten a bit grubby over the winter i was just going to have them redone after the winter months.. but if i can improve them to a shine that would be great...

That looks like the aluminium is quite badly pitted, in which case nothing other than a refurb. is going to make much difference IMO. With genuine split-rim (multi-piece) wheels you are not supposed to use most 'wheel cleaner' solutions either.

After the refurb. use an alloy wheel wax/protector regularly, and wash off road salt etc. as soon as you can.

I was up at Ollys earlier and he was Polishing his lips with a drill and a polishing wheel using Megs Nxt. Was coming up a treat! Was taking a while but looked worth it, maybe he might post a pic later.

They didn't look far off the alloys pictured above to start with!

thanks whe ni got them from Nic on here they did need a refurb im just holding off... if i wait till summer can the lips get badly damaged to a point of no repair??

Autosol ! - but for bare metal, not lacquered.

Farecla do a polishing ball (Smart Uni-Ball) for a drill that can get into funny places like alloy wheels. It works quite well :-)

Another vote for Solvol Autosol, used it for years and haven't found anything else nearly as good....
