What is plugged into the cigarette lighter when the fuse blows and what amp (i.e. 15a) is the fuse that is blown?

It may well be that whatever is plugged in is shorting the contacts in the socket as it is plugged in/out , or else an appliance like tyre inflator or voltage inverter drawing too much current .

BTW , Mercedes-Benz cars come with CIGAR lighters ( check the owners' manual :D ) ; cigarette lighters are fitted to more plebian cars

LOL! what is the difference between the two???

You mean the difference between a cigar and a cigarette? :) It would be like Mercedes against most other car brands.

The difference between cigar lighter and cigarette lighter is minor, you should not use either one.

haha! i know what the difference between a cigarette and a cigar is of course :D

but I dont know the difference between a cigarette lighter and a cigar lighter.... mine has been used ONCE !

Price!

Cigar lighters are much more expensive than mere cigarette lighters.
oh my days just the price?? they do the same thing lollll! but from MB i expect no less :)

When mine came back from a service I complained as mine kept blowing fuses. In closer inspection it turned out when they cleaned the interior, a penny was knocked into the empty lighter socket! (I kept loose change in their).
In fact thinking about it, that wasn't the first symptom, the radio wouldn't store it's stations, so it was also apparent the perm 12v radio feed shared the cigarette lighter socket.
Check for debris in the socket.

Sorry for jumping in [New to forum] could anyone tell me how to replace a cigarette lighter socket in my 190e 2ltr 1986 please? once again sorry if I have butted in! Kind regards Geoff.
