Hi,

My newly acquired 2004 CL500 (facelifted 215 series) has the later (widescreen) COMAND. All seems to work OK (radio, TV, NAV, DVD player, in-dash CD player, cassette), apart from the boot-mounted 6-CD changer and the iPod interface . In the case of the CD, the CD Changer in the boot is complete and seems functional (eject / insert seem to work, it's got power to it), but the multi-CD icon doesn't appear against the soft key on the AUDIO menu, and obviously no further menus or playing capabilities. In the case of the iPod interface, the cable is in the glovebox, it fits the iPod but doesn't charge it (ignition on or off) and AUX1 / AUX2 give no output.

Ideas welcomed!

Thanks in anticipation!

Can you send photo of the cable in the glovebox.

There is no Mercedes iPod kit for that CL. There are iPod kits that pretend to be the CD changer, so it may be CD changer replaced by such an iPod kit, so worth trying putting Comand onto CD changer and plugging iPod in.

If its a new iPod and an older iPod kit it may not well charge (theres a 5V vs 12V issue, early iPods would charge on either, newer ones 5V only, most older iPod kits provide 12V only) - MB make a nice adapter though

CD Multi / iPod

Hi Richard

Thanks - think you've hit it with this. Photos attached. After another hour or so of fiddling with it, I now know that with AUX switch set to "Off", neither the iPod nor the actual CD Changer work at all. With the Aux switch set to "On", the actual CD changer still doesn't work, but the iPod is presented as an AUX device on the CD Changer softkey (see screenshot), with various iPod functions (scan artist, scan title, etc.) presented as the 6 "CDs" in the "changer". Annoying that the CD Changer is not functional at all even if the iPod interface is turned off.

Maybe that's how it "works". Ho hum.

I haven't tried the USB connector, we're all iPod here.

The charging issue - it's a newish iPod touch, so 5V charging only. Likely answer.

Thanks again. Great to find an expert!

Got a 12V to 5V iPod charging voltage converter gadget thingy off eBay for a tenner including shipping form Singapore. Works perfectly!

Thanks for the tip.
