My 2005 C230 has developed the most annoying squeak from area between the sunroof and the fixed rear-passenger roof glass, where the blind retracts to. The squeak is regardless of roof being open/closed or blind being drawn. The dealer says the issue is likely to be in the blind mechanism, and re-tensioning is the solution. There was a popping sound once a while back when closing the blind so it's possible it jumped a tooth and now it's not under tension as it needs to be. Perhaps.
The problem is that this task requires dropping the entire roof lining, not only labour intensive ($$$) but I'm also a bit concerned about getting it back not perfect, or grubby finger marks etc (a different Merc dealership replaced my smart cabrio roof only for me to find grubby marks a month later). And there's always the concern that they do all the work but it still squeaks after, or the squeak returns.
I just thought I'd post the issue here in case someone has dealt with this issue another way or has any other suggestions! The squeak itself sounds like plastic on plastic, and it's virtually constant - there's very little the car can do that doesn't generate a squeak - other than be stationary.
Ideally, I'd like to try something less invasive before giving the go-ahead to mechanics to pull the roof lining apart, including pillars and partial removal of dash I'm told. On my list is trying to track down a dry lubricant, however the mechs have actually already lubricated the sunroof so I'm doubtful I'll get away with just that.
Cheers
