CL500 - Brakes Visit Workshop

Apologies if this has been answered a bunch of times before.

I've just replaced the disks and pad on the front of my '05 CL500 and transferred the original wear sensor (a two wire type) to the new pads but the "Visit Workshop" is still on. So I have some Qs:

1) Is the sensor sacrificial and need to be replaced each time?
2) Is there a way (or a need) to reset the console error message?

Change the sensor, it activates making contact with the disk and they are also prone to failure especailly when changing as the wires often break.
