CL600 on E-Bay

Minefield ?

Mine-County more like !

It'll still have £120k car bills , even though it's only £6k now.

Two of everything to go wrong on the V12 too !! Double Jeopardy !!

Yes.

I had a 2001 S600 and, thank goodness, did not have the bills the previous owner had (>£30,000 in receipts!)

First question to ask: had the oil cooler been replaced. If no, hang up.

I had guessed it may be problematic and expensive

They are just sooooo nice though

You say that but like I said in another post for an S55, I think it was, for similar money - if you can get it cheap enough and it lasts for ideally 2 years, you've done alright...

Sure it's a gamble but a lot of car for the money...

Depends whether you can afford to lose - but £3k a year in depreciation is better than on a modest new car...

Its like anything - who can say when or if it will go wrong - and how big/small the bills will be.

However assuming it is fairly reliable and with luck on your side then hopefully it will only be regular service bills!

Two E55's I've had cost me way less than their origianl £60k plus purchase price - and have both been relatievly cheap to maintain, so I consider myself quids in.

i had a cl500, to be honest if they are looked after (as mine was) they arent that much trouble apart from when you have to take it to the petrol station! lol

just make sure its had its abs pump changed, the hydraulic suspension is a weak point on the car, previous owner on mine had a 5k bill for a suspension overhall! so make sure if you go to see the car, that it raises and lowers how it should!

Last owner for 9 years. So 9 years ago, that car would have cost quite a lot of money. Hopefully, in that time it's been well cared for by someone who can afford it. Could be a bargain!

On the face of it, bearing in mind its original price, it seems that way to me, and I do like a "bargain"

Exactly.

It is a gamble to an extent, but then isn't any car without a warranty?

I've heard some horrendous bills on some economy *.*320CDIs on here so nothing is immune.

At least big V8 and V12 petrol automatics have been around a lot longer than oil burners so the manufacturers have had a long time to iron out the ****.

I said to myself before I bought my E55K that the most amount of money I could EVER lose was the purchase price, and the number of years I get out of it in the meantime is a bonus.

I reckon you pick that blue one up for £5k cash and even if the very worst happened and it died spectacularly after a year (which I doubt) then for me, I don't know about where you live, but £5k is a train ticket to London and back every day before tax...!

How much fun do you get out of that?

I rest my case. :D

This is true but get your head around the forecourt mortgage requirements and you're laughing!

Wise advice to check the car lifts up and down as it should. My inde told me a fair few S's have issues with the adjustable suspension... (although it is standard on the S I believe so you will have more incidents of).

If you've not had a car with it - it rises and lowers slowly but is noticeable...

I am guessing but I reckon thats a trade sale.

Last owner 9 years etc..

There's no love in the ad at all, nothing personal like I've replaced this and that / its been reliable / etc..

Looking at the wall behind its photo'd in front of a Merc Repairer or soemthing and there are other Mercs laying around in the background.

mmmmmm....

Maybe dealer up to 65k then somewhere else for next 25?? needs clarifying obviously.
I would have thought even somebody who doesn't care that much would leave for a whole 25k miles.....

Lots more to go wrong on the V12's though.

I'd have a punt on a V8 anyday of the week , but the V12 is a different beast.

I know what you mean I love 55's (and 43's for that matter, had a CLK430 from Jay a little while back) - but the thought of a V12 sounds so good. Although if it does go wrong I don't have deep pockets!

Is this considered cheap, because I love them...........but is it a potential mine field?!

2000 MERCEDES CL600 AUTO BLUE | eBay UK

It's about as cheap as the going rate, for an early CL.

As said already, the V12 is quite complex and expensive to maintain.

Lovely cars though - but steep servicing/repair costs, hence why you can pick them up for peanuts these days.

If they were cheap to run and very reliable, they'd be two or three times the price IMHO - so perhaps another way to look at potential ownership. £6k is the downpayment, budget plenty for repairs and you may be ok.

Nice way of owning a car like that, if you buy with your eyes wide open and you get a good'un that doesn't hurt the wallet too much, then the gamble can pay off :D

For what it's worth M137 is the most unreliable V12 engine Mercedes ever made. Unlike M120 or M275 they chose to quickly forget about it after 3 or 4 years.

Nice CL500 it is then eh Mark...

I'd read a lot of good stuff about the E55K and reliability so was quite happy to somewhat take a punt.

Hearing this car is not so great from the masses kind of alters things a bit and probably now in your shoes would be looking for a V8 instead...

EDIT: CL55s don't look too bad:
