Claiming for pothole damage

Sadly things will only get worse. EVs are even heavier than the standard road car and have much more torque all of which will disrupt road surfaces , especially in increasing temperatures. Maybe instead of vanity projects like HS2 the money should be spent on the road infrastructure rather than the current “sticking plaster” approach currently in place.

when i damaged my wheel and tyre on my insignia for a massive hole i put a claim in with the highways agency, i got an email back basically saying we didnt know about it so tough, if you want to get a solicitor involved go ahead.
Was a waste of time for me

Excellent result - well done!

Hi,

A few weeks ago I hit a big pothole and it burst one of my tyres immediately. Due to the situation, hitting it was unavoidable.

I replaced both front tyres (so that they match - didn't have a matching Continental tyre in stock and I didn't want mismatched tread wear anyway) at the cost of nearly £300. There is some slight damage to the wheel but the tyre guys said it wasn't something that would cause issues.

Reported it to the local council with pictures and a copy of the invoice I spent for the tyres - no reply until I chased up, but they've replied saying

Replying with 'ok but can I have some compensation please' doesn't seem like it will elicit much of a response.

Has anybody here successfully claimed for pothole damage from the council, if so, any advice/tips? Did you call up, or best to have something in writing?

Cheers,
You have asked nicely , now take them to small claims court .... moneyclaimonline

If the pothole had not been reported then AFAIK you can’t claim compensation.
They have a duty to inspect the road at regular intervals ; if they cannot provide accurate records showing that this has been done - they are liable for failing to maintain the road .

Cheers,
I tried to write and call them, but I never really got anywhere

I've recently been sucessful on two separate claims on my two Mercedes. I claimed and received £220 for a broken spring and £162 for a new Conti Sport5 when i got a carbuncle after hitting a pothole.
Was actually quite easy for me to as I was able to photograph both potholes and the white markings showing that the council had inspected the road and marked it for repair but hadn't actually repaired it. It made them admit liability without quibbling.
Hope you all have the same luck as me.

Kind regards All
Nick
