Pretty much agree with most of the advice posted already. I'm no expert but here's my thoughts.
I've got the Farecla Mitt and also a Megs Clay bar as well.
If time and patience is not on your side use the mitt......I use mine with farecla detox shampoo and it works pretty well.....glides along nicely! However I've found myself using the Megs clay bar for certain areas that the mitt struggles to get to.
In my very limited experience it's best to wash the car first, then use the fallout / tar remover to get rid of most of the nasty bits on the paint then clay after that. Should be a nice smooth surface then.
If you have the time you can also use some paint cleanser.....Autoglym stuff is good.....giving a really nice surface for applying polish.
This has always worked for me.
