Did a few 0-60 runs tonight with my trusty G-Tech.

Best run was 5.23.

My rear tyres are down to about 3mm, so I reckon with nice new sticky rubber on the back, I could probably get that down to 5.0 dead and, maybe with a bit of luck, break into the 4's.

Please, if you don't have anything positive to say, keep it to yourself. Different strokes for different folks.

Cheers,
Ian.

Ok, cool... I'm enjoying it very much :)

No worries......have lots of fun, and get that new rubber on ready for the sub 5 second burn..

Hi, well done on the new car. in the electronics section there is a G tech thread where we are collecting real performance figures. Could you add your figures to the list please.

BTW have you had your car weighed in order to do bhp if not use your handbooks listed unladenweight which includes driver and fuel and 90% of other fluids etc but not cargo.

Drive carefully!

I'm looking forward to adding my name to the list soon.

I think a G-tech unit may be winging its way over[edit spelling] ? (subtle hint!):D

I've not forgotten! I will post in the G tech thread in a bit, just going for a run in the car!

i york, how did you manage to photograph the display on your G tech. Mine flashes so fast its nigh on impossible to photograph it!

Mine doesn't flash too quickly... it alternates between 0-60 time and 60-0 distance about once every second, so not too difficult to snap a pic. Maybe you're using the later G-Tech with the backlit LCD display and other fancy stuff on it? Mine is the original G-Tech.

Cheers,
Ian.

By the way, just as a point of interest, my C5 Corvette (auto) did a best of 4.74.

What is Merc's 0-60 claim for it?

I got my old MR2 Turbo (uprated to 320 horses) to a 4.64 to 60 once.

Just after doing it an Escort Cossie did it in 3.41 - mega. It did have about 600bhp, though :D

Ah, the old days of caring about off the line times, when I was a lad :D

Now please all correct me if I am wrong! but would new tyres really help? I am only saying this as I assume road tyres are what you meant and they may well have better grip in wet and slippery conditions when totaly new, but in the dry how much performance from well run in tyres would you lose? I saw a braking test done on new tyres and legal limit tyres and the new ones obvioulsy were better, but tyres at 3mm stopped even quicker. this was in the dry and was done without the use of anti lock brakes.

have you emptied out all wieght from the car when you did this test?

and as a point of interest, how much difference would running at a lower pressure do you think we can gain? Not that I am interested in having another fiddle with the device next time I meet up with it. Oh no, just colecting thoughts!

am i right in thinking the factory quotes 5.2 to 100kph? or is it 5.4?

Tread depth definately makes a difference in the dry. My old C5 Corvette had barely legal tyres on the back when I bought it and the best 0-60 time I could get was around 6 seconds! With new rubber, that plummeted to a best of 4.74. The extra grip that more tread gives you is probably due to the fact that the tread blocks can flex more, which helps with traction.

Regarding pressures, I did try various tyre pressure combinations back when I had the Vette and didn't really see any difference. However, the theory is good that lower tyre pressure would correlate to more grip. The road surface is very important too. It's pretty tough to break into the 4's without AWD or a mid/rear-engined chassis... it really is all about getting the power down, which is why it's not unusual to see similar 0-60 times between a car with, say, 350bhp and a car with 600bhp.

I didn't have any extra weight in the car when I did the 0-60 runs... only me, an empty boot and about half a tank of fuel.

I think the factory 0-60 figure for the W208 CLK 55 was 5.4.

Cheers,
Ian.

4.64 is very impressive.

Ah, the benefits of 4WD... try getting a 3.41 0-60 in a RWD car with the same output (good luck!)

Cheers,
Ian.
