CLK 500
Hi All,

This is my 1st post so hoping I am in the right place, I have found an OEM AMG Back box and twin pipes from a CLK 55 that I am thinking about switching in for my stock CLK 500 back box and single pipe.

I am hoping this will give me a nice looking rear end but also potentially a nicer sound.... My questions for those in the know:
Are the back boxes different AMG vs non stock CLK 500 or is it just the tail pipes? will I notice a real difference in the sound and in your opinions is it worth the cost ( I assume £150 fitted)?
I was thinking about going quad, but the need for a bumper upgrade, the extra parts and increase labour has put me off.... for now :-)

Would be great to get any advice on the topic and pick me up on any oversights!

Any garage should be able to fit the AMG rear box no problem, aswell as fabricate the quad set up.

I paid £50 to have the rear box fitted and £150 for the quad set up to be created/fitted. - all to my CLK270

amg or aftermarket back box

Thanks for the figures, £50 is what I've been quoted to fit the back box and £100 to buy the second hand OEM AMG box and twin pipes.

Ive used your clk project as inspiration so thanks for such a detailed write up. Did you notice a significant change in sound with the AMG back box installed? I'm trying to work out wheter the investment is only going to give me a visual benefit or if I will get a sweeter sound to.... I love my 500 but just feel like it should punch a little more weight with the exhaust note.

When you upgraded to quad pipe did you go strait from the AMG back box (it looks this way) if doing it again would you consider going aftermarket with the box for a quad set up?

Also would be good to get anyone's views on electric exhaust cut outs, I like the idea if having the ability to just turn it up every now and again, but keep it OEM for normal driving. I've found a number of suppliers in the US but not much chatter on the UK forums? Anyone got any experience with these or reccomendations on placement for a clk?

Got a video of my 270 with the quad pipes on my YouTube channel:

As you can hear, it did give a better sound (still sounds like a taxi at the front though :) )

Id only ever use OEM parts personally.
