hi i am thinking of upgrading my 230 komp later this year and i am just trying to find the diffrence between both models in terms of performance equipment ect ect anyone know the power output of the 430 i think the 55 is 347bhp thanks
Terry

The 430 (275bhp) is nice but in all honesty the 55 is an AMG and a better all-round car.

the 55 has a much quicker gearbox, and significantly better suspension, and brakes. plus it has nappa leather.

55 has much better acceleration and is much more responsive.

the 209 55 is even more powerful, as it has 20bhp more I think

I bought a CLK430 3 weeks ago and its been absolutely fantastic so far.

I wasn't too sure if 275bhp was going to be enough in the CLK but I'm pleased as punch with the response on its fanstastic gearbox and above 80mph it pulls even stronger.

I would have loved a CLK55 and I know its the better car but my CLK430 is my daily driver and so when you consider the high fuel consumption, servicing costs, parts and insurance of the AMG the 430 makes more sense.

As forum member Howard once said, you must not test drive a 55 if you're considering a 430 because once you've sampled the AMG you'll forget all about the 430.

If you have enough cash to buy a decent CLK55 (£12k plus) and enough set aside for the servicing then go for it and don't worry about the 430.

However, if you're after a decently fast fully loaded CLK for not much more than £8-9k then the 430 can't be beaten.

Feel free to call jaymanek, I did when I was looking but he didn't have any 430's in stock. He's a really good bloke and will offer you some honest decent advice.

I suspect fuel consumption difference is negligible on long distances ...

here's a readout from my trip computer

Thats pretty much the same as our 430

Alright alright, no need to be smug!! ;)

I managed 29mpg on a 200+ mile trip. I really would have loved an AMG but I still bet the parts and servicing are alot more....ok, ok may I should have held out for the right AMG but I would have had to spend at least £5000 more.:D

If you can afford it go for the 55.
You wont regret it!!!

sounds like you are a closet AMG fan :)

What MB fan isn't :D

I'll have myself an AMG one day but trying to explain 5.5 litres to the missus isn't as easy as you think!

I "explained" my 5.5l to my missus about three weeks after it first appeared on our driveway...she did wonder what the 55 meant...

I never ever ever ever got anywhere near that fuel consumption in my E55, I blame my steel toe capped boots......

thanks for the replies i think im going to go for the w208 55 amg it will be the back end of the year but i like to resurch things well before i buy also i will be in touch mercland when i have the money. lol to the comments about clk 55 i have just sold my skyline to get a "cheaper to run car" and in truth i think i just got bored of corsa's trying to race me and wanted a more luxurious car, now the mrs's i saying i thought you wanted a "smaller engine" you cant make your mind up (with a confused / cross look on her face) i think im in the dog house again due to cars...................... oh well what else is there to spend your money on.

Reminds me of how I came to buy my clk55.

At the time I was driving around in a 2.0 Mondeo and was getting angry at how fuel prices were rising.
So I had thought about an LPG conversion on the Mondeo.
Seeing that it was going to cost me around £2000 I decided that the money would be better spent on converting a newer car so that I would gain from the investment over a longer term.

So far so good.

However, when I decided what that budget was going to be I found that I was now in the price bracket for some very nice motors.
I got carried away and before I knew what was happening I had done a complete 180 turn and ended up buying a car that not only ran on petrol but consumed around twice the amount!

I loved every moment of ownership and never regretted it.:D

Mac.

If you want fun and sensible running costs opt for the 430...great car...if you have deeper pockets....specifically when it comes to brake pads and discs then opt for the 55.

Both great cars
