Folks,

As this is my 1st merc and as such my 1st service interval. The car is almost at 70K miles and is a B service. I have not spoken to a stealership yet - but any advice from you good folk would be very well appreciated......

thanks

My CLK270 B service at 28000 miles was £340 at MB Drayton/Stoke, although they did such a crap job, I eventually got a full refund, so from my experience could be anywhere between £0 & £340!!! No help at all I know!

If you lucky you'll get your car pack in the same condition that it went in to the Stealership without any marks/scratches/curbed alloys etc...

B service is just a "glorified" A Service (oil filter change) and in addition they only change an additional filter of some sort i.e. pollen as well as some other basic checks and if anything else needs doing then you will get billed about £100 per hour labour charges plus cost of parts.

The cost of a B Service depends on the type of the car and usually costs twice as much as an A Service. My guesses are that your probably looking at around £400-450 on a W208 plus any other additional work that may need doing. Stealers normally "try it on" and may say to you the brakes need doing as very low but I would just get the MB Service stamp and get the i.e. brakes done else where if that was to be the case, for example. If your car’s over 3 years old then you may possibly be entitled to a additional discount of some sort BUT have to request this!!! - i.e. reduced labour rates and discount of 10% on parts...

MB dealers love B-services: they will eyeball your brakes as it is a magnet for extra revenue...

C180K, 2003, B-Service @ 20K miles, MB franchised dealer:

1. Standard 'B' Service £450
2. Brake disc/pad replacement £600

Total : £1050 incl VAT.

Got the £600 quid back after some serious complaining to MBUK.

Also, ask the dealer what oil they are using: they will use semi-synth unless you ask otherwise. Take the name of the person dealing with your service query, and write on the service docket how much you were quoted.

Expect to be fleeced: someone has to pay for the MB brand image.

Good luck.

Not good

I was in exact same situation in Feb 06. I walked away from an independant £1250 lighter. It did include pads and discs all round and spark plugs and all filters. I was not happy but could not complain as I knew it was coming.

11 hours time spent on car. Previous B service(before my ownership) was same money for less work. The stealership had also put wrong spark plugs in car and had not torqued them correctly. Car was noticeable smoother and quicker after service.

HOLY MOLY !!!!

Thanks sooo much guys - so basically it looks like i need to ensure i cover all the bases - get the names of the ppl i'm dealing with along with the detail of what work needs doing. As the car is over 3 yrs old - and i have a very very good mechanic who also owns a Merc who i play golf with - i might as well get my brakes done from him, if they need doing.

What i do need to get done is the cluster display for the Comand i put in a few weeks back..... can i expect a FAT bill for this work....

Thanks very very much for all your help..... you have no idea how much its worth..... anyone interested in buying a W208 !!!! lol:D :D

I had my 320 cab b serviced at my local indi here in South Wales. I didnt need any work doing, and was charged £250.

I have a friend who has just called company and the Stamp that they use on the book reads "George Frazer of London Mercedes Specialist" - they are quoting £280 + VAT for a b service. they said the dealerships recognise them and the warranty is upheld ....... What do you think....

Thanks

It will uphold the manufacturer's warranty, but not the mobilo life corrosion protection (if you have it), which demands a full MB history.

Now, DaimlerChrysler know that after 5 years over 70% of new-car owners user will go independant. The odds are in their favour as it reduces their cost of supporting future corrosion warranty claims. It is true that DCUK still uphold some such complaints..but more often they do not.

If you do use an independant you must get in in writing that they are using genuine MB parts and procedures: it is not enough to be told this as if you need to prove it to MBUK you will be stuffed.

And be wary about people posting 'cheap' deals at this place or that: I was informed on this site that a B-Service would cost no more than £300 from a franchised dealer: I called the dealer and it was in fact over £460.

Good luck!

That sounds very interesting, I looked them up:

Car Service | Book Online | Car Servicing | Car Repairs | Car MOT

They don't seem to be MB franchised though - so no Mobilo. And they are more expensive than a local indie, who might be someone whom you know personally and trust... Still, I would keep this info handy as admittedly they do make an interesting alternative.

But the big question is - are you happy with the way the car was serviced?

..also an approved by MB.

Whatever you think of them, they are *not* approved by MB.

There are a couple of outfits like this around now - they come and take your car and have it serviced in some random place. You could just take it to Kwik-Fit or the local "under-the-arches" place yourself.

There's feedback on one website that they crashed his car, brought it back and told the customer to sort it out and still demanded payment.

I'm no dealer lover, but any MB dealer will do a basic B service, inc collection and wash & valet, for £360. If they quoted £640 then there must have been other work involved.

I've got mine going for a D service next week:(, although on the service codes it has general inspection and exh gas analysis, plugs, trans fluid and brake fluid were done last time, indy has quoted about £400.

My local Independent charged me £285 quid for my 70k B-service. Only thing they said was there was a slight bit of corrosion on the rear brake pipes but that was it. I had been royally stung on the previous service at the main dealer tho.

Went to stealer first time round (Brentford) and wasn't too shocked inc ATF change/filters etc but think they ignored a few things - used indi since (Colin Ferns in Richmond) who's usually quite sensible

Are there no recommended indies near to you? A good indie will do the work for less money, and usually do a better job because they want repeat business and recommendations. The amount you will save by using an indie a few times will easily outweigh any potential adverse effect on the used value of the car brought about by not having a full main dealer service history. Have a look in the section on MB specialists across the U.K.

I Recently had my 'B' service done on my C55 at MB, it was the major service they said, 16 spark plugs, brake fluid change, air/fuel filters, full gearbox service, etc etc, came to £850 with 40% discount and I provided them with Mobile 1 fully synthetic 10L.

all in all it cost me £915 with the Oil but the car runs even better/faster, they did a great job MB, fair play.

It's well worth taking it to MB for a service IMO plus if you already have FMBSH it's worth keeping it that way..., or PCS (BlackC55) they are just as good.:thumb:
