very nice Si, well impressed, hows it soundin?

thanks m8, yeah its getting there after lots and lots for tweeking!!!
i got round to getting all the amps scoped and levels correctly set then all
set-up on a rta just before xmas.

its sound good but there is a little bit more i can get from the setup - then i think ill be hitting the limitations of the front components :S

as last time you heard it - it was loads of b line and not much else lol
ive since then gone for a more sq sounding set-up with the option if i need to to have a heavy b line then there is a programed in setting for that too :P

lol, it took me years to get my old setup together and put in.... and 3 hours to rip it all out :(

Hi unit504, just wanted to say, that looks like an amazing system you got there.
I too have a W208 convertible & am going to be replacing the front, rear & ideally the sub too at some time in the not to distant future.

Can I ask, did you consider replacing the existing sub that ports through the arm rest? as this is what I wanted to do, so as to keep all the already limited boot space.
If so, do you know how to get to the existing sub & also what size it is?
I asume this would only handle a very limited amount of power?
Really, all I am after is a decent baseline when the system is turned up, Im not after SQ.

I have already replaced the head unit, so powering an after market sub will not be an issue.
Thanks.

Stuart

i did think of just replacing the existing sub but the problems i found was the mounting depth what not enough - as the current install sub is one of the slim line subs. I did try putting a normal depth sub in its place but found the pump for the roof was in the way and to be moving that was quite a job.

This is why i went for the current layout as i still gives you some boot space (i know its not a great area) and you still have access to the space wheel also.

Saying that it is poss to fiberglass up a sub box that would "fit around" the roof pump and in behind the roof shield if space was a absolute must!!!

You need to consider where your amps will go to start with.

To gain access to the standard sub you need to remove the metal panel in the boot of the car, this will expose all the parts you will need to get too.

I see your profile says your in kent, what part you in? if your not to far you i can always help you out if need be.

Just wanted to throw this Q out there really...
has anyone on here installed any car audio into a clk convertible/coupe?
wanted really to see options/opinions.

Yes i had a W208 CLK430 Convertible and i fitted a lot into it, here goes....

I firstly had sound deadening stuff put all over the car to stop any rattles!! Then i had pods made to take larger component speakers front and rear, then i had Focal Utopia component speakers fitted and an Alpine V12 4 channel 800w max iirc to run just those. Next i had two Focal 10 inch subs mounted into a custom made box that slotted into the boot with or without the hood up and an Alpine V12 1k amp to run the two subs. Then i had a Kenwood flip out nav unit fitted with full nav, touch screen and TV/DVD etc. This is about 8 years ago now so it was the dogs b0llocks at the time!! It is really tough getting base into the cabin especially with the roof down, i managed it just by using very powerful subs and amp with brute force but i must say it would have sounded 1000 times better in a hatchback!! I also had it all removed and fitted into an M3 convertible afterwards and it sounded exactly the same, still struggled to get the base into the car. Those Focal speakers though are amazing, i not heard any that match those if you like anything with a baseline......

Hi,
I am from the Latvian, and already a couple of years in my possession is a CLK W208 Cabrio. About 2 years ago installed a new sound system for my CLK, but from time to time improvements to the over-riding that I am unhappy with is the low end sounding of my car. Now I have DLS subwoofers X12, approximately 30L sealed fiberglass box in spare wheel. And I miss the bass, when roof is down and speed above 60 mph. I wanted to ask, or with 2 alpine type R 12 subwoofer bass well enough at 60 mph?

My system consists of
Sony XES processor.
Sony XES P1, Sony XES X1, Sony XES T1, Sony CDX 828
Amplifiers of DLS series Ultimat
DLS A1, A2 DLS, DLS A6
and the front speakers DLS US6
And subs DLS X12

Now I am slowly thinking of the bandpass subwoofer design creation and management of ports in original subwoofers instead ... :)
