Greetings, Citizens.

You may or may not be aware that I've been considering returning to the fold.. however my attempts at buying an AMG SLK have fallen by the wayside.

I'm therefore looking at a CLK.. with the proviso that is must have a V8 nestling under the bonnet.

Three likely candidates have come up on the radar.. I'd be interested in your views as to the pluses and minuses of each..

Blue CLK500 209

Blue CLK55 208

Gold CLK500 209

The 55 obviously earns plus points for being an AMG.. but it is older and has done a few miles. The blue 500 looks nice, but I prefer the interior of the gold one, which has a mere 22K on the clock.. as I only do c. 5K a year, this might hold onto its value better if it stays as a low mileage example..

I've no idea as to the differences in the spec. between the two 500's.. can anyone shed any light on the difference between Elegance and Avantgarde? I'd prefer a stiffer suspension setup, one of my colleagues has been given a 209 CLK as a courtesy car a few times and reckons that it's a bit of a boat..

Cheers,

Gaz

gold is an unpopular colour, any value it may hold due to mileage will be lost due to its colour..

The blue looks lovely to me, i love that Ice blue colour...

This thread is very similar to one from a couple of months back!

elegance is softer sprung, avantgarde is sportier.
elegance has wood, avantgarde has carbon fibre/black wood or aluminum.

Avantgarde is a better suspension and is a more direct steering.

The steering is sportier in style in the avantgarde, and the seats have more lumbar support.

stick to the newer shape clk opposed to older as they were appaulingly built.

The drivers seat in that 208 looks to have seen more than 69K. My CLK has done similar mileage and the seat in mine is in far better condition.

Yeah, but I bet you're not 20 stone!

I was under the impression that Elegance and Avantgarde were basically the same car but with different trim.

I have just bought a W209 Clk 500 convertible....this is an Avantgarde and it was factory fitted with 18" AMG wheels and sports suspension.

The 500 is refined and powerful...very relaxing to drive but has the go as well. The car drives and handles very well.

Cannot seem to open the links but will keep trying.

We had a W208 320 clk convertible before this one...very nice car and never had any problems with it....handling of new car much better though.

The Blue W209 looks the best of those three to me.

Peter1965 did the same search a few months ago. Have a look at some of his old threads for more info. Here's one.

BTW the seat in the W208 looks the same as mine that has 96k miles.

The Travertiene Beige is a Designo colour and actually looks more silver than gold in reality (at least the one I saw at our local dealers did).....

You should be looking at the spec of the car as well....things like memory seats, comand, phone, cd changer sports suspension etc....the one below has a good spec it is on Auto Trader but I do not appear to be able to create a link to it for some reason

Hmm, I like it, particularly with the sand interior. But you know the market better than I do.. I'll bear this in mind. Ta.

Cheers,

Gaz
