Hi , 1st post be gentle !!

I want to drop a sub into the boot of my CLK 209 but don't want the hassle of a MDF box or drilling holes if i can help it , So I started having a nose around in the boot to see where I could put it , Looking into the boot I noticed that under the parcel shelf there is a sort of vented circular cut out in the metal , I would say 10 inches diameter or so with what looks like a couple of holes for clips , Now i'm guessing that that hole is there for a sub should my car have been a higher spec model with a premium sound system .

Am I right or do i need to start drilling holes all over the place ?

I got a sub in the compartment, only found out yesterday during fitting of parking sensor. is it mounted on a plastic mount, it might be a better idea to buy one from the breakers

it could be a left over from the cab version, as I have a sub thats mounted at the back of the seat

You're spot on.

I had one, took it out a few weeks back, have it sat around at work somewhere!

In my first picture you can just about make out the magnet of the standard down-firing sub.

Lift off the speaker cover and have a look for yourself...

Just been clearing up and found mine, you can have it for £15 inc. P&P or you can pick it up from me for half that if you like...

Are you sure a sub isn't already in that hole?
I'm pretty sure there was one in my W208 and that car didn't have the Bose sound system installed.

Might be worth a closer look. (Unless the W209's are completely different?)

That's a nice setup, is the bass crisp?

Yes, very.

Everyone who has listened to it has been VERY surprised at the musical capabilities, especially at low-mid levels. I need to rebrace it as it's making my rear screen flex at extreme levels...causing some musical colouration.

The decay, responsiveness and extension are all excellent and would embarrass subs costing 5 times their price.

I will deffo look into something similar for my C class. I love the way the headunit looks.

I will replace the factory 8 inch sub, any recommendations?

This is probably the simplest replacement that will give vast improvements to the original sub.

eDaudio.com

something along the lines of this will power it to it's optimum.
Car Audio Direct - Alpine MRP-M352 - Amplifier

There are other 10" subs that can be fitted with little more modification that will give much better bass again. The first ones sound really great for the money though.
