HI All,

Could do with some advice, I have CLK 320 , 92,000miles w208.

I have attached the wheel alignment report from a recent check. Car is pulling to the left and is giving uneven wear to the outside of the near side tyre.

During the check the technician found that there is excessive play in the steering on account of steering box play.

He told me that the pull could be due to the steering box, but I am unconvinced as the pull is always to the left.

I was told that they could adjust the Camber by ordering in some special bolts, but this will not stop the pull. Could anyone tell me if the camber reading is within tolerance, if not what the correct reading should be?

Was also told that the Castor could not be adjusted, and although it is out is not responsible for the pull.

Many Thanks In advance.

Every Merc I have owned has pulled a little to the left. My current S class certainly does and I have come to accept that it wears front tyres on the outside shoulder.

The only time that I can notice any difference is when it has new tyres and freshly corrected tracking but this only lasts about 5000 miles or so.

Don't forget that lots of our roads slope slightly to the lef for drainage.

Hi , I suggest that you might like to speak to Wheels in motion.
Mercedes Pulling Problems | Wheel Alignment and Steering Geometry Specialists : Wheels in Motion

They are well known on here and have solved a number of peoples problems with pulling etc. and apparently give good service. I have not used them yet, although intend to when next down south for my W209

Wish I'd known about them when I had my W203 - spent quite a bit on tracking, tyres, balancing etc all to no effect.:(

Not a million miles from you either - maybe worth a call?

The front left castor is out.

The front left camber is out

The front right camber is out.

If you adjust that castor the pull be be worse

Black 55 are you suggesting should leave the set up as is, and live with the tyre wear and pull.

Just take it to WIM and get them to set it up, I have never had a car that pulls, if it does there is something wrong. Never had a problem since using WIM and you are a lot closer than me.

No.

Go to WIM or a dealer to get it done properly

Cheers all for your replies, have booked a slot with WIM for alingment. Have emailed the report over to WIM, nice man over the phone said would get back to me with his opinion.

Did you solve the problem ? as I have been told today that the tracking is spot on so is the camber, but the castor is miles out.
|The mechanic said it drove very badly indeed.... I know that as its been getting slowly worse for ages. It seems to dive to the left or right at the slightest bump in the road and it never wants to drive in a straight line. I've replaced wheel bearings, track rods, and had the tracking done loads of time but it has never improved.
It is booked in next week for the work to be done.... they need special bolts?
Any one else had tis problem on the clk 230k
thatnks

As Black says:

the obvious problems are the front cambers are excessive, and the front left castor is wrong compared to the front right castor.

To lessen the pulling to the NS, the NS castor should be more than the OS castor.

You have them reversed.

BUT of course there could also be wear on the suspension bushes etc at that mileage, and this should be your priority before any wheel alignment.

Finally someone who know what to say!! Main reason for your pul caster on near side. I should be about 0.25-0.75 deg more then on offside to compensate angles of our roads.

First is always to make sure that all tires are fine and they all keep right pressure and then focus on alignment.

Other thing I would say that you got way to negative camber on front wheels. That will be reason for excessive wear on a inside of tires.
