Hello,

hate to come on and make my first post a request for help :o but the Merc's developed a problem I hope someone can help with!

The electric fore/aft adjustment on the driver's seat has stopped working. I wouldn't normally be too bothered but it happened when the girlfriend was using the car and she's 5'7", I'm 6'2" so it's a bit cramped for me now!

All the other adjustment works fine, and when I operate the switch I can hear the click of the relay under the seat so it sounds like it's not a switch or power problem, but something nearer the motor. Fuse is fine too. The memory function is also fine, except for the fore/aft. Any likely easy fixes before I squeeze in and tootle off to the garage??

Thanks in advance!

Nine times out of ten its the switch, but it may also be the motor sticking easy fix
take the seat out and strip the forward motor and check the brushes this is a common problem with these motors

Cheers - I'm pretty sure the switch is ok as everything else works and there's a reassuring 'click' from (I'm guessing) a relay under the seat so I'll try the bushes in the motor.

Next question(!)........is the seat removal process pretty obvious (I'm a pretty competent spanner wielder) or is there anything strange about the process??
