Has any one had/got any recommendations on coilovers for the e55 thinking of fitting some due to not being to happy with the way the car handles.

We have got a car come in in a couple of weeks and we are fitting KW variant 2's to it.

This is also an E55

You wont really find too much info about the 55s as they have airmatic no one does an after market kit for them.

To fit coil overs you have to change a couple of the arms as they are different on the airmatic side of things.

But are easy enough to source as you fit one from something like a 320 or similar.

Thank you for the info I find this is the one and only thing that I feel lets the e55 down is the handling. Would be intresting to know how the kit works out

Yeah our customer feels the same

The car should be coming in in the next few weeks we are just waiting for some other bits to turn up.

Pm me with an email address and i can send you some pics and info once they are installed.

I think SavMan knows about this, if my memory serves me correct.

mbworld has got details inc what parts etc in addition to the coilovers.

i still like the airmatic, comfort and height when you need it and low and stiffer at a touch of a button.

I drive mine low and stiff 24/7 but the cornering just isn't enuf for me iv allways had evos scoobys etc I know it will never corner like that but I think it could be better

I agree if you have run cars in the past with coil overs and proper camber arms with a full geometry set up. The E55 will never compare even on setting 2 all the time.

I assume your tracking your E55 a lot to warrant the need for such a improved set up?

For me like others airmatic still provides a good balance for everyday needs.

Good luck sounds like your treading a worn path already with the US guys having done a fair few conversions.

yes I plan on doing a few of track days here and there I stay 5 minuets from knockhill racing circuit so hard not to want to go on track :D

but even on the road the car dose not give me the confidence in the corners I would like it to.. :dk:

I did consider selling the car but I like it way to much it has everything I need from a car I use every day apart from this one thing. on the other hand I may just buy a toy for taking to the track and spirited Sunday drives so I don't spoil the e55 sort of in two minds about it all.
:wallbash:

I could have the coil overs on the car and it could end up ruining my daily drive in the car as I do allot of driving I have covered 10k since February.:wallbash:

It took me a while to gain the confidence to hustle the CLS55 through the corners. Even on Sport II it felt wallowy. But press on and everything tightens up nicely, the AIRmatic doing a sterling job keeping it all together.

I ran coilovers on my S203 oil burner and they were fantastic, really transformed the handling. But the AIRmatic just gives one the option to "waft" should one wish to ;)

I'd probably buy a second car.

I do understand what you mean by the handling. It's good but not quite good enough.

However, for the comfort it gives you, I would keep it as is and buy a track car which is utterly impractical for daily driving.

I once thought about stripping it out as a track car but what a waste of what is really quite a well appointed interior. So I dismissed the idea!

its not the suspension that will let go first it will be the brakes.

taken mine to goodwood a few times and its the brakes that come out baking.
its a heavy car to slow down.

Iv noticed the brakes also on a spirited drive is there a good pad/disc combination?? The brakes on my rs6 were very very good. The only two parts the e55 could improve on..

Totally agree, visit an aerodrome and give it the beans whilst sliding and hitting 90 degree bends at 100mph and you'll soon realise that they do handle very well, much more than you can imagine but uprated brakes are a must :thumb:

I also have half an eye on doing this sometime, probably when the airmatic lets go in some form, given the expense to repair, and then the potential weight saving, will be good to see how this transition from airmatic to coilover goes, and the ride results, good to see EC actually doing this very shortly, look forward to the reports.:D
