Cold Start Problem 190E

Hi, I have looked through the various threads but have not found a conclusion to this one.

My 1992 190E (Petrol) has cold starting problems - no problems after first start of the morning, but first thing on a morning is a problem.

It WILL start, first time, but not after a lot of popping and banging and drama.

All plug leads/distributor cap etc are fine.

It seems, talking to my local garage, that this is a known issue, but that there does not seem to be a known cure! (well, not without an awful lot of investigation and expense, which could well not solve the issue anyway).

Does anyone have an answer to this problem?

Hi,

My father faced similar problems with his 1985 190E. He took the car to a local mechanic, who said -if I remember right- that the fuel pressure regulator or actuator, which sits on the left-back side of the injection module needs to be replaced. The module have been changed to another used one, but the cold start problem was still there.

Later he took the car to an official Bosch service point, where they meassured all the parameters of the injection system. They have found a faulty wire on the fuel pressure regulator; the wire was replaced and cold starting is back to normal again. (This procedure was taken during an official Bosch training for mechanics, therefore costed nothing. We are located in Hungary.)

You should try to find an official Bosch service station near your area.

Got sorted. Took it to a Bosche Centre, as per your advice.

For they record, for anyone in the North West of England, they were oakwwod gate garage, in WARRINGTON Cheshire - 01925 815090 and they come highly reccomended - their number is 01925 815090.

The problem was traced to the Air Bypass & Cold Start Relay, both of which have been replaced.
