Comand 2.0 Pin connections ?

Miro, I'll try it without the Speedpulse first and see how that works. A post from Paul Grainger back in Jan 2003 also mentions that this connection may not be required.

I do have the replacement frame and wood panel ready.

I'll tackle the Diagnostic Connector last but it would be interesting to see whether Flyer & Alfie completed this mod and whether it works ok without it ?

You do need the speed pulse but you can check if you are getting a speed signal by going to the diagnostic page on comand and view the speed readout.

I found that it was zero until I hooked up the speed signal.

Thanks Topdown. :)

I've just re-read the post from Miro and I may have got the wrong end of the stick. I thought that you don't need to connect the Speedpulse whatsoever ie. to C2/Pin 06 but looks like Miro means connecting to C2/Pin 06 but not the bridge to A/Pin 01. I got there in the end !

The daunting bit is the Diagnostic Connector Pin change  Anyone done this ? :o

I think this secondary point refers to taking the speed pulse from C2/6 down to A/1.

You need something in C2/6.

Moving the diagnostic pin is nothing more than dismantling an industrial quality CPC connector. It is very logical and a high quality system.

Thanks Miro for your assurances and I think it shouldn't be a problem with the Diagnostic Connector. Sounds straight forward but of course its always easy if you've done it before !

I forgot to move the pin and the dealer managed to get Comand and the Telephone active on the cluster.

That's pretty impressive. Did they move the pin for you ?

No the guy said that it was a little awkward buit the new Star machine sorted it out.

rgds

Topdown - did they charge you to active the instrument cluster for Comand ? I've got the phone already actived with the Audio 10 unit so I guess that won't need doing ?

Maybe, it can be configured without moving the pin in the Diagnostic Connector. :)

If you need to adjust the ABS ring count for the reasons mentioned above then that may prove somewhat harder. As for the cluster itself ... hard to say. May be just the skill of the operator.

Hi Flyer, didn't have time to start the mod last weekend as DIY tool precedent and besides I only managed to pick the extra bits from the dealer on Tuesday (extra pins for C1/2 housings and the WICLIC to HRS cable).

Got a shock from the dealer. I looked at the invoice and they charged me £0.56p + VAT each for the pins  I only queried this as they charged me £0.56p for a pack of 5 the previous week :) . I got lucky he say's as it's charged per item and their stock is now showing 4 missing (as he points to his screen !)

I have managed to make up a nice little loom adapter which connects from the original wiring in the car to C1/C2 connectors. This will enable me to quickly release the connections and connect back the original Audio 10 if need be in the future without too much hassle. I've attached a photo below.

BTW Flyer, did you complete the Diagnostic Connector pin mod from 33 to 34 as described by Miro recently.

Anyway, I'm going to try to make some time this weekend but I am on call so I'm hoping it's not too busy.

I dont get it. You have the skill to crimp pins onto a cable but you chose to make an adapter. Why not just directly alter the body harness ?

The last thing you need is more connections than the minimum. I can assure you that after wrestling with the dashboard for 20minutes and trying to slide the new frame into position that you will have no intentions of going back the other way (back to radio).

Kwano's post states that he can easily go back to an Audio 10 if he wants. Why not. He might not like the COMAND or might want to take it out easily before selling the car.

I think he's done a good job with the cable. Well done.

BTW I was charged 56p each for my pins also!

Good luck this weekend.

Boy, do I know that problem :D

Eek! You got your 10% discount though, yes? (Just ask, most will give it).

IIRC Alfie did something similar. I can see the benefits, but didn't do it myself.

No, but then again, my car didn't need it, as I don't have the updated steering wheel and instrument cluster and I didn't need the dealer to plug in and reprogram.

Good luck (at finding the time, and doing the install :D )

If we are talking about the same car here then what you are proposing is that you would go to COMAND in a W210 and then go back to radio.

Now that is something I have to say is far more work than I would consider. Rather impressive to say the least.

Hi Guys (Flyer, Alfie & Miro),

I only made the loom adapter as I saw it done somewhere else and it looks rather neat. Also I think it makes it easier to revert back to the original cable/connections if and when I sell the car and put back in the Audio 10 as you probably won't get much more if you sell the car with the Comand unit in. Now with the loom made, it's another thing 'ticked off the list' - it can be just plugged and I can get on with the rest of the mod (and start dismantling the car !) :o

I did struggle getting some of the Pins in the C1/2 housing due to the wires being slightly thicker than the openings so it would have been a pain if I had to do this in the car than on the kitchen table !

Hoping a dry weekend ! I'll keep you guys posted on the progress. :)

Yesterday was a wash out but today completely dry :)

Have pretty much completed the main install and tested the unit which shows all functions seem to be working (ie. Radio, CD Changer, Telephone, Sat Nav.).

The unit found 7 Sats. quite quickly :D and displayed exact location/direction. I've just got to go on a test run and see if thats ok and see if I've found the correct green/black speedsensor wire ! The one I hooked up to had red tape on it and looked like the one as it was pretty much on its own. There was another attached to a black connector but the other end of the connector linked to a grey wire which didn't look right

Few bits to put back once I'm satisfied all is working ok and I'll then post some piccies. One issue I've not tried and tested is the double din bracket (part no. 210 689 0916) - there doesn't appear to be any lugs for the comand to grip onto so I'm not sure whether there is something else I need to buy and install ?

The comand has the twin spring catches on each side. Audiocomp state this fitment is for a W163 / W208 ? ("Attachment sheet metals") They also list "Comand Attaching bracket" for a W210 which are "L" shaped brackets - are these what I need guys ?

Check the link under 'ASSEMBLY' (second from bottom) : http://www.audiocomp.at/shop/en/index.html

Thanks

Yeah the W210 ones are L shapped and they sit in their own small space. Held in with two screws ....

I dont think I would be floating the unit !
